An analysis of airline landing flare data based on flight and training simulator measurements [PDF]

open access: yes
Landings by experienced airline pilots transitioning to the DC-10, performed in flight and on a simulator, were analyzed and compared using a pilot-in-the-loop model of the landing maneuver.

Mechanical design of NASA Ames Research Center vertical motion simulator [PDF]

open access: yes, 1976
NASA has designed and is constructing a new flight simulator with large vertical travel. Several aspects of the mechanical design of this Vertical Motion Simulator (VMS) are discussed, including the multiple rack and pinion vertical drive, a pneumatic ...

Photoresponsive Adaptive Reconfiguration of Single‐Atom Interface With Intermittent Light and Soft Ionic Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We present a photoresponsive platform that integrates SACs with halide perovskite supports, turning perovskite ion mobility, typically a stability concern, into a functional mechanism for light‐regulated self‐repair and reversible atomic reconfiguration. Adaptive metal‐support interactions are established through bandgap‐funnel engineering and the soft

Mermoz© simulator: use of a database to estimate the photovoltaic input on a UAV. Application to a transatlantic voyage

open access: yesDrone Systems and Applications
This paper introduces the Mermoz simulator, developed to predict the photovoltaic energy contribution of solar cells mounted on a low-altitude unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over long-distance flights.

A comparison of visual and haltere-mediated equilibrium reflexes in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Flies exhibit extraordinary maneuverability, relying on feedback from multiple sensory organs to control flight. Both the compound eyes and the mechanosensory halteres encode angular motion as the fly rotates about the three body axes during flight ...

De Rerum Natura: How Do Halide Perovskites Self‐Heal From Damage?

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
How can lead‐halide‐perovskites self‐heal after damage from light, heat, mechanical strain, or radiation? We show that reversible chemical defects underly performance losses and recovery, highlighting the roles of halide and proton migration, redox‐driven reactions, and acid‐base equilibria.

Evaluation of the Malcolm horizon in a moving-base flight simulator [PDF]

open access: yes
The efficacy of the Malcolm Horizon (MH) in a controlled, simulated, instrument flight environment was examined. Eight flight parameters were used to compare performance under experimental and control conditions.

Two‐Photon 3D Printing of Functional Microstructures Inside Living Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates 3D printing inside living cells by using two‐photon photo‐lithography. A bio‐compatible photoresist is injected into cells and selectively polymerized with a femtosecond laser, creating custom‐shaped intracellular structures with submicron resolution.
