Conservation implications of genetic structure in the narrowest endemic quillwort from the Eastern Amazon. [PDF]
The quillwort Isoëtes cangae is a critically endangered species occurring in a single lake in Serra dos Carajás, Eastern Amazon. To provide information for effective conservation programs, we evaluated its genetic diversity and population structure using neutral SNPs.

Wild canids and the ecological traps facing the climate change and deforestation in the Amazon Forest. [PDF]
Considering the evolutionary history of the species and the rapid changes in land use in the Amazon Forest, we suggest that anthropogenic environments may provide false clues for species adaptation, which could lead to an ecological trap in the future.

Bioprospecting for Isoetes cangae Endophytes with Potential to Promote Plant Growth. [PDF]
Isoetes cangae is a native plant found only in a permanent pond in Serra dos Carajás in the Amazon region. Plant‐associated microbial communities are recognized to be responsible for biological processes essential for the health, growth, and even adaptation of plants to environmental stresses.

Unraveling the plant diversity of the Amazonian canga through DNA barcoding. [PDF]
Here we bring genetic information for the unique flora of the canga of the Serra dos Carajás in Eastern Amazon. DNA barcodes were obtained for 538 species, 323 genera, and 115 families of vascular plants, with 344 species being characterized for the first time.

Completing the jigsaw: the first record of the female plant of Daphnopsis filipedunculata (Thymelaeaceae), an endemic species from the Brazilian Amazon [PDF]
The results of intensive fieldwork in the National Forest of Carajás (FLONA Carajás) led to the discovery of pistillate plants of Daphnopsis filipedunculata, an endemic species from the Serra dos Carajás, previously known only from staminate individuals.

Assessing Connectivity Thresholds Under Habitat Loss Scenarios for Threatened Amphibians and Squamate Reptiles in the Eastern Brazilian Amazon. [PDF]
We assessed which habitat extinction threshold in a landscape is a good predictor of functional connectivity for 14 species of terrestrial herpetofauna in the eastern Brazilian Amazon. We concluded that forest species should maintain a threshold of approximately 30% of habitat to avoid a significant abrupt decline in overall connectivity.

Floral Integration and Phenotypic Selection on Floral Traits of Ipomoea cavalcantei (Convolvulaceae), a Rare, Endemic, and Endangered Species to the Amazon Ironstone Outcrops. [PDF]
This paper analyzed the evolutionary potential of Ipomoea cavalcantei (an endemic species from the Amazon) by using floral integration and phenotypic selection analysis. The analyzed population presented floral integration in style length, probably due to selective pressures from pollinators on floral traits related to pollen deposition.

Blind Testing: DNA Barcoding Sheds Light Upon the Identity of Plant Fragments as a Subsidy for Cave Conservation. [PDF]
Plants living above and around caves represent an important, albeit poorly studied, resource within cave ecosystems. The presence of plant material (root-like structures or rhizothemes, saplings, seeds, and seedlings) correlates positively with the ...

Three new troglobitic Coarazuphium (Coleoptera, Carabidae, Zuphiini) species from a Brazilian hotspot of cave beetles: exploring how the environmental attributes of caves drive ground-beetle niches [PDF]
Three new species of troglobitic beetles of the genus Coarazuphium are described from specimens collected in iron ore caves in the Flona de Carajás in Brazil, doubling the number of known species for the Carajás region.
