Standard flood-frequency analysis methods rely on an assumption of stationarity, but because of growing understanding of climatic persistence and concern regarding the effects of climate change, the need for methods to detect and model nonstationary ...

Pathogenic Role of FGFR3 Autoantibodies in Small Fiber Neuropathy
Autoantibodies against fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3) are identified as pathogenic drivers of pain in small fiber neuropathy. By binding to sensory neurons in dorsal root ganglia, FGFR3 autoantibodies activate MAPK signaling and induce hyperexcitability and mechanical hypersensitivity, establishing FGFR3 autoantibodies as a therapeutic ...

Nature, socioeconomics and adaptation to natural disasters: new evidence from floods [PDF]
The authors analyze the determinants of fatalities in 2,194 large flood events in 108 countries between 1985 and 2008. Given that socioeconomic factors can affect mortality right in the aftermath of a flood, but also indirectly by influencing flood ...

Climate change reshapes the spatial alignment between crop production and environmental resources. Using multi‐source data and a crop model, integrated climatic, water, and soil endowments for maize and wheat are quantified and compared with harvest distributions.

The implication of the increase in storm frequency and intensity to coastal housing markets
This paper analyzes the effects of storm frequency and intensity on housing values in Miami‐Dade County over the last three decades. We found that higher storm exposure accelerates the housing price discount caused by augmented flood risk.

Skeleton‐oriented object segmentation (SKOOTS) introduces a new strategy for 3D mitochondrial instance segmentation by predicting explicit skeletons rather than relying on boundary cues. This approach enables robust analysis of densely packed organelles in large FIB‐SEM datasets.

An insight into flood frequency for design floods [PDF]
The maximum annual flood (MAF) series of peak flows have been commonly used in the literature to estimate the parameters of a statistical model in order to estimate design floods for the proper protection and management of flows during extreme events. The use of maximum annual flows restricts the size of the available sample to the number of available ...
