Paleohydrological changes in an Amazonian floodplain lake: Santa Ninha Lake

open access: yesJournal of Paleolimnology, 2012
Holocene environments have been reconstructed by sedimentological, mineralogical and organic geochemical analysis of a 270-cm core from Santa Ninha Lake, a floodplain lake in lower Amazonia. Dated by fourteen AMS-radiocarbon dates, the sediment core has a basal age of 5,600 cal years BP and different sedimentary units were identified.

New Canadian Records of Asilidae (Diptera) From an Endangered Ontario Ecosystem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The Asilidae (Diptera) of Bosanquet (northern Lambton County, Ontario) are surveyed. Forty-one species are recorded. Twelve species are published for the first time from Canada: Atomosia puella, Cerotainia albipilosa, Cerotainia macrocera, Holcocephala ...

The onset of grasses in the Amazon drainage basin, evidence from the fossil record [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Poaceae (the grass family) originated in the Cretaceous, but first dominate the palynological records of the Amazon drainage basin (ADB) in the Neogene (23 to 2.5 million years ago (Ma)).

Richness and composition of macrophyte assemblages in four Amazonian lakes - doi: 10.4025/actascibiolsci.v35i3.11602

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Biological Sciences, 2013
Aquatic macrophytes are an important component in the structure of lakes in Neotropical floodplains, for example, because they support a high diversity of invertebrates and vertebrates.

Seasonal variability in concentration, composition, age, and fluxes of particulate organic carbon exchanged between the floodplain and Amazon river [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
International audienceThe composition, sources, and age of particulate organic matter were determined in an Amazonian river-floodplain system during rising, high, falling, and low water periods over 7 yr (1999-2006), and a mass balance for total organic ...

Otolith Trace Element and Stable Isotopic Compositions Differentiate Fishes From the Middle Mississippi River, its Tributaries, and Floodplain Lakes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Naturally occurring stable isotope and trace elemental markers in otoliths have emerged as powerful tools for determining natal origins and environmental history of fishes in a variety of marine and freshwater environments.

Flood did not cause the taxonomic and functional homogenization of Chironomidae (Diptera) community in a Neotropical floodplain [PDF]

open access: yesActa Limnologica Brasiliensia
: Aim We investigated the hypothesis that flood decreases the taxonomic and functional beta diversity of Chironomidae (Diptera) larvae among floodplain lakes, causing biotic homogenization. Methods We collected benthic samples using a modified Petersen

Spatial Expansion of Human Settlement during the Longshan Period (~4.5–~3.9 ka BP) and Its Hydroclimatic Contexts in the Lower Yellow River Floodplain, Eastern China

open access: yesLand, 2021
Obvious spatial expansion of human settlement occurred in the lower Yellow River floodplain during the Longshan period, but the external factors driving this expansion remain unclear.

Distribution of Terrestrial Isopods (Crustacea: Isopoda) Throughout Michigan: Early Results [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Results are reported from the first two years of a multi-year study on the distribution of terrestrial isopods (Crustacea: Isopoda) in Michigan. During the first year of the study (1997), intensive investigations were carried out using pitfall traps in ...

Evaluation of environmental condition: water and sediment examination of oxbow lakes [PDF]

open access: yesActa Geographica Debrecina. Landscape & Environment Series, 2011
As a result of the river regulation a number of oxbow lakes have arisen in the floodplain of the Lower-Tisza. The floodplain lakes represent natural values and major recreation areas of the lowland region.
