Mechanism of Roadway Floor Heave Controlled by Floor Corner Pile in Deep Roadway under High Horizontal Stress

open access: yes, 2021
In order to overcome the support difficulty of serious floor heave caused by rock burst, with the floor heave of ventilation roadway in Hegang Xing An Coal Mine as the engineering background, the treatment scheme of the concrete-filled steel tube corner ...

Floor deformation control for roof cutting and pressure relief in gob-side entry retaining of deep buried mines

open access: yesGong-kuang zidonghua
Currently, research and practice on roadway floor heave mainly explore the deformation mechanism and control technology of roadway floor. The mechanical analysis of floor before and after roof cutting and pressure relief in gob-side entry retaining is ...

New Schmidt hammer exposure‐age dating calibrations for the Last Glacial Termination in NW Scotland: Development and application to undated Torridon Group sandstone surfaces in Wester Ross

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT An understanding of the terrestrial extent, retreat dynamics and climate–glacier coupling of ice masses during the Last Glacial Termination (LGT, ~18–11 ka) is often limited by a fragmentary geomorphological record and is dependent on precise, accurate and robust dating frameworks.

Study on Floor Heave Characteristics and the Control Method of Gob-Side Entry Driving in Weakly Cemented Soft Rock

open access: yes, 2023
Aiming at the problems of large deformation, long duration, and difficult control of floor heave in gob-side entry driving in weakly cemented soft rock, this paper takes the weakly cemented soft rock mining area in Western China as the engineering ...

An Elasto–Plastic Hydro–Mechanical Model for Analyzing the Swelling Behavior of Heterogeneous Clay–Sulfate Rocks

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Swelling of clay‐sulfate rocks is a concern in geotechnical engineering that can damage infrastructure. In the historic town of Staufen in southwest Germany, geothermal drilling into a swellable anhydrite‐bearing clay formation resulted in water inflow and subsequent swelling, triggering ground heave and damage to more than 250 houses.

Frost heave in compressible soils [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We develop a mathematical model of frost heave in compressible soils based on a morphological instability of the ice–soil interface. The theory accounts for heave and soil consolidation, while avoiding the frozen fringe assumption.

The Burning Question: Frequencies of Tobacco Consumption in Postmedieval (16th–19th c. ce) England and the Netherlands

open access: yesInternational Journal of Osteoarchaeology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The frequency of tobacco use during the postmedieval period is widely underexplored; this has repercussions for our understanding of the intoxicant's health impacts during this time. Our study assesses the frequency rates of tobacco consumption in different social groups in England and the Netherlands, two countries in which tobacco use became

Electrical Resistivity Tomography for the 2D and 3D Investigation of Pingos and Permafrost Mounds in Northern Canada's Mountain and Coastland Areas

open access: yesPermafrost and Periglacial Processes, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pingos and related permafrost mounds are widespread periglacial landforms in Arctic environments that are ice‐rich on the one hand and contain taliks on the other, making them vulnerable to climate change. So far, the interior, geophysical characteristics, and distribution of ground ice within these dome‐ or cone‐shaped features have not been ...

Machine Learning for Thermodynamic States of Notional Nonideal Energetic Mixtures

open access: yesPropellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, EarlyView.
. ABSTRACT Currently, modeling the thermodynamic states in the reaction zone of a detonating energetic mixture entails iteratively solving a set of coupled differential equations that require detailed material property information or models whose empirical parameters must be physically measured.
