An Elasto–Plastic Hydro–Mechanical Model for Analyzing the Swelling Behavior of Heterogeneous Clay–Sulfate Rocks

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Swelling of clay‐sulfate rocks is a concern in geotechnical engineering that can damage infrastructure. In the historic town of Staufen in southwest Germany, geothermal drilling into a swellable anhydrite‐bearing clay formation resulted in water inflow and subsequent swelling, triggering ground heave and damage to more than 250 houses.

Examining the Political Dimensions of Sustainability: The Role of Freedom of Expression in Environmental Outcomes

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Although significant efforts have been made to prevent environmental degradation, the success of these initiatives has remained limited. The primary reason for this is environmental issues' complex and multidimensional nature. Economic, political, and social dynamics play a central role in shaping environmental problems, necessitating a ...

Study on Mechanism and Control Technology of Asymmetric Floor Heave in a Deep Soft Rock Main Roadway

open access: yes, 2022
Considering the serious asymmetric deformation and failure of the floor of 1# main roadway in Wanglou Coal Mine, the mechanism of roadway asymmetric floor heave was studied through on-site investigation, theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, and on-

The Great British Productivity Puzzle and Regional Industries: A Dynamic Multilevel Spatial Frontier Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Regional Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Using two approaches, we contribute to sub‐national economic performance measurement by netting out the influence of a region's performance on its industries. The first approach measures performance using technical efficiency and involves introducing the first multilevel spatial stochastic frontier model.

Floor heave mechanisms in underground coal mine roadways [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Several underground coal mines in Australia have been experiencing excessive floor deformation in roadways, better known as floor heave. Although the phenomenon does not generally have safety implications, unexpected floor heave can cause financial ...

A Study on the Floor Heave Characteristics of a Gob-Side Entry in Deep-Thick Coal Seam During Longwall Mining

open access: yesGeofluids
Floor heave control becomes more and more prominent in engineering practice with the increased mining depth of the working face. The gob-side entry of the 21404 working face in Hulusu Coal Mine was taken to be the engineering background to study the gob ...

Rapid Global Oxygen Shifts and Delayed OMZ Response: Pulse and Memory of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 18, 28 September 2026.
Abstract Natural decadal variability often obscures anthropogenic trends in ocean deoxygenation. Using a global observational oxygen reconstruction (1965–2022), we investigate the role of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) in modulating decadal oxygen variability.

Failure mechanism and control method of floor for gob-side entry retaining of inclined coal seam by impact load

open access: yesMeitan kexue jishu
Due to impact loads resulting from lateral rotation and subsidence of the main roof in inclined coal seams, gob-side entry retaining exhibit severe surrounding rock deformation and failure, with particularly pronounced floor heave.
