Comparing different floral resources on the longevity of a parasitic wasp

Agricultural and Forest Entomology, 2008
Abstract 1 The effects of floral resources of several important non‐crop host plants of Lygus lineolaris on the longevity of Anaphes iole , one of its natural enemies, was studied.

Autogamy and Floral Longevity inMimulus guttatus

International Journal of Plant Sciences, 2002
Floral longevity is an important determinant of reproductive success in Mimulus guttatus. We conducted a series of experiments investigating floral longevity in the Iron Mountain population of M. guttatus under controlled conditions. In the absence of pollinators, flowers typically last 4–6 d.

Variation in floral longevity in the genus Leptosiphon: mating system consequences

Plant Biology, 2012
AbstractPollination or fertilisation trigger floral senescence in a wide range of flowering plants, and yet little attention has been given to the implications of this phenomenon to mating system evolution. We examined the effects of pollination on floral senescence in the genus Leptosiphon. Species in the genus exhibit a wide range of breeding systems.

Effect of floral nectar, water, and feeding frequency on Cotesia glomerata longevity

BioControl, 2007
This study examined how water, sucrose, and frequency of nectar availability affects the longevity of the parasitoid Cotesia glomerata (L.) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae). Under standard laboratory conditions, water did not extend longevity in the absence of sugar in three out of four comparisons, nor did it extend longevity with access to nectar.

A global meta‐analysis of floral longevity reveals widespread plasticity and ecological correlates

New Phytologist
Summary Plasticity of floral longevity (FL) in response to pollination enables plants to maximize opportunities for pollen receipt and export under unfavorable pollination conditions, while minimizing costs under favorable ones, playing a crucial role in plant pollination.

The role of autonomous self‐pollination in floral longevity in varieties of Impatiens hypophylla (Balsaminaceae)

American Journal of Botany, 2002
The floral longevity of unpollinated, hand self‐, and hand cross‐pollinated flowers was compared in two varieties of Impatiens hypophylla, which contrasts with their mating systems. When flowers were emasculated and hand‐pollinated every day after anthesis, their longevity was reduced.

Effect of floral bud reduction on flower longevity in Asiatic hybrids lilies.

1995
Floral bud abortion was found to be an undesirable source of non-genetic variation in breeding trials directed on the improvement of individual flower longevity in Asiatic hybrid lilies. It increased the longevity of the remaining flowers of the inflorescence.
