Spatial dynamics of floral organ formation
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2018Understanding the emergence of biological structures and their changes is a complex problem. On a biochemical level, it is based on gene regulatory networks (GRN) consisting on interactions between the genes responsible for cell differentiation and coupled in a greater scale with external factors.

Genetic basis for innovations in floral organ identity
Journal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, 2005AbstractOf the many innovations associated with the radiation of the angiosperms, the evolution of a petal identity program is among the best understood from a genetic standpoint. Although the existing data do indicate that similar genetic mechanisms control petal development across diverse taxa, there is also considerable evidence for variability in ...

Quantitative live imaging of floral organ initiation and floral meristem termination in Aquilegia
Development, 2022ABSTRACT In-depth investigation of any developmental process in plants requires knowledge of both the underpinning molecular networks and how they directly determine patterns of cell division and expansion over time. Floral meristems (FMs) produce floral organs, after which they undergo floral meristem termination (FMT); precise control ...

98.9% of 5092 flowers from 1041 individuals of Circaeaster agrestis have five floral organs, the formula is P3A1G1 (73.13%), P2A2G1 (25.59%), and P2A1G2 (0.22%). Only 0.4% of the flowers have six floral organs and the formula is P3A1G2 (20 flowers) or P3A2G1 (one flower).

Floral Structure and Organization in Platanaceae
International Journal of Plant Sciences, 2009Developing and mature inflorescences and flowers of several representatives of Platanus were studied to clarify various aspects of floral structure and organization. Special attention was given to perianth differentiation. Extant Platanaceae are monoecious with unisexual flowers aggregated into compact, spherical inflorescence heads.

Development of the Floral Organs
2007AbstractIt is becoming clear that flower development is a cascade, with flowering time integrators activating floral meristem identity genes which activate floral organ identity genes. The floral organ identity genes themselves encode transcription factors, and are predicted to activate the many structural genes required to form the new organs, as well

Patterns and Polarity in Floral Meristem and Floral Organ Initiation
Critical Reviews in Plant Sciences, 2014The initial event in plant floral organogenesis is bract specification, followed by floral meristem (FM) initiation in bract axils, but initiation signals and the interplay between both lateral organs remain unelucidated. Floral organs are initiated on the flanks of the outgrowing FM and the enormous diversity in floral morphology throughout the plant ...

The floral-organ-number mutant fon(t) was firstly discovered in the progeny of a cross between a diploid (Chunjiang 683) and a haploid (SARIV-620-A) rice cultivar. The fon(t) mutant showed normal vegetative development and produced normal inflorescence structures.
