Function and Diversification of MADS-Box Genes in Rice [PDF]

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2006
MADS-box genes play critical roles in a number of developmental processes in flowering plants, such as specification of floral organ identity, control of flowering time, and regulation of fruit development.

Genome-wide analysis of MADS-box genes and their expression patterns in unisexual flower development in dioecious spinach [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
Evolution of unisexual flowers involves extreme changes in floral development. Spinach is one of the species to discern the formation and evolution of dioecy.

Structural and Functional Analysis of the MADS-Box Genes Reveals Their Functions in Cold Stress Responses and Flower Development in Tea Plant (Camellia sinensis) [PDF]

open access: yesPlants, 2023
MADS-box genes comprise a large family of transcription factors that play crucial roles in all aspects of plant growth and development. However, no detailed information on the evolutionary relationship and functional characterization of MADS-box genes is

Genome-Wide Identified MADS-Box Genes in Prunus campanulata ‘Plena’ and Theirs Roles in Double-Flower Development [PDF]

open access: yesPlants, 2023
The MADS-box gene family plays key roles in flower induction, floral initiation, and floral morphogenesis in flowering plants. To understand their functions in the double-flower formation of Prunus campanulata ‘Plena’ (hereafter referred to as PCP ...

Transcript Profiling of MIKCc MADS-Box Genes Reveals Conserved and Novel Roles in Barley Inflorescence Development [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
MADS-box genes have a wide range of functions in plant reproductive development and grain production. The ABCDE model of floral organ development shows that MADS-box genes are central players in these events in dicotyledonous plants but the applicability

Multifunctional evolution of B and AGL6 MADS box genes in orchids. [PDF]

open access: yesNat Commun, 2021
AbstractWe previously found that B and AGL6 proteins form L (OAP3-2/OAGL6-2/OPI) and SP (OAP3-1/OAGL6-1/OPI) complexes to determine lip/sepal/petal identities in orchids. Here, we show that the functional L’ (OAP3-1/OAGL6-2/OPI) and SP’ (OAP3-2/OAGL6-1/OPI) complexes likely exist and AP3/PI/AGL6 genes have acquired additional functions during evolution.

Evolution and functional divergence of MADS-box genes in Pyrus. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep, 2019
AbstractMADS-box transcription factors widely regulate all aspects of plant growth including development and reproduction. Although the MADS-box gene family genes have been extensively characterized in many plants, they have not been studied in closely related species.

MADS-box genes and crop domestication: the jack of all traits [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 2018
MADS-box genes are key regulators of virtually every aspect of plant reproductive development. They play especially prominent roles in flowering time control, inflorescence architecture, floral organ identity determination, and seed development. The developmental and evolutionary importance of MADS-box genes is widely acknowledged.
