Hawkmoths evaluate scenting flowers with the tip of their proboscis
Pollination by insects is essential to many ecosystems. Previously, we have shown that floral scent is important to mediate pollen transfer between plants (Kessler et al., 2015).

ABSTRACT Plants are important sources of bioactive compounds that contribute to nutrition, health maintenance, and disease prevention. In this study, the chemical composition and antioxidant potential of essential oils obtained from Lavandula angustifolia “Sevtopolis” and Lavandula × intermedia cultivated in the Silivri region of Istanbul were ...

Gain and Loss of Floral Scent Production through Changes in Structural Genes during Pollinator-Mediated Speciation [PDF]
Summary The interactions of plants with their pollinators are thought to be a driving force in the evolution of angiosperms. Adaptation to a new pollinator involves coordinated changes in multiple floral traits controlled by multiple genes. Surprisingly,

The impact of family interview on the relationship between medical students and their silent mentor
Abstract The gross anatomy laboratory course often triggers significant negative emotions in medical students during dissection. While various pedagogical interventions aim to alleviate psychological burden, the fundamental question of how students' perceptions of donors evolve throughout the course remains underexplored.

Sexual deception of male bees is one of the most remarkable mechanisms of pollination (Ackermann 1986, Proctor & al. 1996). Flowers of the orchid genus Ophrys mimic females of their pollinator species, usually bees and wasps, to attract males, which try ...

Potassium hydroxide activation of microalgal biochar for improved adsorption efficiency
Abstract Activated carbon was prepared from Chlorella by carbonization and potassium hydroxide activation, and its structural properties and methylene blue (MB) adsorption performance were evaluated. Raw Chlorella exhibited an adsorption capacity of 287.2 mg g−1, which decreased to 214.8 mg g−1 after carbonization.

Eugenol synthase genes in floral scent variation in Gymnadenia species [PDF]
Floral signaling, especially through floral scent, is often highly complex, and little is known about the molecular mechanisms and evolutionary causes of this complexity.
