Some perspectives on modelling the effect of temperature on the erosion-corrosion of Fe in aqueous conditions

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper, a model is generated of the effect of temperature on the erosion-corrosion of Fe in aqueous conditions, for room temperature to 373K. The results indicate how the transition from active to passivation dominated regimes for Fe are favoured ...

Flow Assisted Corrosion of API 5L X-70 in Sour Brine induced by Pipe Flow Changes in a Jet Impingement Chamber

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2015
The corrosion behavior of API 5L X-70 pipe steel was studied in a jet impingement chamber, which simulated the effect of flow rate and contact angle on pipe accessories.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

CO2 Corrosion in the Region Between the Static and Turbulent Flow Regimes [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2015
This paper discusses the influence of the flow of a fluid from the static regime to the turbulent in CO2 corrosion experienced by low carbon steel. A more comprehensive approach to CO2 corrosion implies taking the free flowing velocity and shear stress ...

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Erosion-corrosion behavior of L80 steel under high velocity wet gas condition by flow loop method

open access: yes工程科学学报, 2018
With the continuous petroleum extraction from deep-water subsea gas fields, many long distance offshore natural gas pipelines have been constructed. The design parameters directly affect the gas flow velocity in pipelines, which may introduce high wall ...

Erosion Corrosion Behavior of Aluminum Electrode in Simulated HVDC Water Cooling at 50 °C

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2020
The inner wall of aluminum radiators in a high voltage direct current (HVDC) thyristor valve cooling systems are corroded under a continuous erosion of water coolant at ~50 °C, and the dissolved aluminum ions precipitate again on the surface of the ...
