Flexible liners for corrosion protection of pipelines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Flexible plastic liners are sometimes installed into new and existing oil and gas pipelines to prevent corrosion of the pipe wall. A practical difficulty of this method is that the plastic liners are permeable to gases, which can collect and form an ...

A new methodology for modelling erosion–corrosion regimes on real surfaces : Gliding down the galvanic series for a range of metal-corrosion systems

open access: yes, 2010
Erosion-corrosion of materials in aqueous environments is a complex phenomenon involving a very large number of variables. In such cases, characteristics of the target, particle and the environment affect the degradation mechanism.

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Fireside corrosion study of superheater materials in advanced power plants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Conventional power plants are major emitters of CO2 gases, which are believed to be contributing to global warming. An efficient, co-firing biomass-coal power plant with oxy-firing combustion system (running at high steam temperature and pressure), can ...

Effect of Temperature,CO2 Partial Pressure and Flow Rate on the CO2 Corrosion Behavior of N80 Tubing [PDF]

open access: yesCailiao Baohu
In order to clarify the CO2 corrosion laws and corrosion behavior of N80 tubing under different temperatures,CO2 partial pressures and flow rates, corrosion weight-loss experiments were conducted in a high-temperature and high-pressure ...

Time‐Dependent Oxidation and Scale Evolution of a Wrought Co/Ni‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows how a new wrought Co/Ni‐based superalloy resists oxidation at 800 ∘$^\circ$C. The oxide scale changes from rough, fast‐growing spinel to a dense, protective chromia–alumina layer. Atom probe analysis reveals tiny refractory‐rich bubbles at the interface that mark the transition to long‐term, diffusion‐controlled protection ...
