Tortuosity-porosity relation in porous media flow [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2008
We study numerically the tortuosity--porosity relation in a microscopic model of a porous medium arranged as a collectin of freely overlapping squares. It is demonstrated that the finite-size effects and the discretization errors, which were ignored in previous studies, may cause significant underestimation of tortuosity.

Chaotic Advection at the Pore Scale: Mechanisms, Upscaling and Implications for Macroscopic Transport [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The macroscopic spreading and mixing of solute plumes in saturated porous media is ultimately controlled by processes operating at the pore scale. Whilst the conventional picture of pore-scale mechanical dispersion and molecular diffusion leading to ...

Influence of micro‐pore structure in tight sandstone reservoir on the seepage and water‐drive producing mechanism—a case study from Chang 6 reservoir in Huaqing area of Ordos basin

open access: yesEnergy Science & Engineering, 2019
To study the influence of pore structure on the seepage and water‐drive producing mechanisms, various methods were combined to describe the micro‐pore structure in the Chang 6 tight sandstone reservoir in the Huaqing area, Ordos Basin, China.

Velocity measurements of a dilute particulate suspension over and through a porous medium model

open access: yes, 2020
We experimentally examine pressure-driven flows of 1%, 3%, and 5% dilute suspensions over and through a porous media model. The flow of non-colloidal, non-Brownian suspensions of rigid and spherical particles suspended in a Newtonian fluid is considered ...

Multiscale simulations of porous media flows in flow-based coordinate system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this paper, we propose a multiscale technique for the simulation of porous media flows in a flow-based coordinate system. A flow-based coordinate system allows us to simplify the scale interaction and derive the upscaled equations for purely ...

Research on carbonate reservoir interwell connectivity based on a modified diffusivity filter model

open access: yesOpen Physics, 2017
According to the solution of dual-porosity model, a diffusivity filter model of carbonate reservoir was established, which can effectively illustrate the injection signal attenuation and lag characteristic.

Numerical study on influence of water based hybrid nanofluid and porous media on heat transfer and pressure loss

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2022
The performance augmentation of the heat exchangers is a deal between heat transfer improvement and pressure loss penalty. There is no study investigating this deal as the thermal performance index of the heat exchangers filled by hybrid nanofluid and ...

New Understanding of Transient Pressure Response in the Transition Zone of Oil-Water and Gas-Water Systems

open access: yesGeofluids, 2018
Well test analysis requires a preselected model, which relies on the context input and the diagnostic result through the pressure logarithmic derivative curve.

Evaluation of void space of complicated potentially oil-bearing carbonate formation using X-ray tomography and electron microscopy methods

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2022
The Vereiskiy reservoir (Perm Region, Russia) is one of the complicated oil-bearing carbonate formations. It consists of interbedded carbonates and clayey rocks with low interbedded thickness (3–6 m), which makes its development unprofitable.

Lattice Boltzmann Modelling of Fluid Flow through Porous Media: A Comparison between Pore-Structure and Representative Elementary Volume Methods

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
In this study, we present a novel comparison between pore-structure (PS) and representative elementary volume (REV) methods for modelling fluid flow through porous media using a second-order lattice Boltzmann method (LBM).
