Mathematical Modeling of Geophysical Vortex Flow

International Journal of Fluid Mechanics Research, 2005
A mathematical model is developed of the geophysical vortex flow using an order-of-magnitude analysis based on a laminar, steady axisymmetric vortex motion in a cylindrical frame of reference. A similarity method is adopted. The classical solution of Long (J. Fluid. Mech., 11, p. 611, 1961; Rossby number > 1) is reexamined.

Mathematical Description of Turbulent Flows

Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1982
The mathematical description of uniform density and thermally stratified flows in terms of space averages is reviewed. The governing equations are presented and the use of alternative space filters is discussed. Different models for Sub-Grid-Scale (SGS) turbulent transport are examined.

Mathematical Problems in Transonic Flow

Canadian Mathematical Bulletin, 1986
AbstractWe present an outline of the problem of irrotational compressible flow past an airfoil at speeds that lie somewhere between those of the supersonic flight of the Concorde and the subsonic flight of commercial airlines. The problem is simplified and the important role of modifying the equations with physics terms is examined.

Mathematical modeling of blood flow

2012 International Conference on Informatics, Electronics & Vision (ICIEV), 2012
The interface between mathematics and biology has initiated and fostered new mathematical areas, where the ideas from mathematics and biology are synergistically applied. Study of fluid dynamics plays a significant role in fluid flow inside the human body, and modeling of blood flow is an important field in cardiovascular physics.

Mathematical modeling of Stratified flows

2007
The present Chapter of the lecture notes is divided into three different sections. The first section is devoted to the description of the equations governing a stratified flow field. The Reynolds averaged equations are derived together with the transport equations for the mean and turbulent kinetic energies.

Extensional flow ?a mathematical perspective

Rheologica Acta, 1995
Extensional flow has been studied extensively for less than half the lifetime of the word “rheology”, although measurement of viscosity from extensional flow experiments can be traced back to the beginning of this century. In recent years extensional flow has, however, attracted a great deal of attention in conferences, workshops and special issues of ...

Mathematical model representing blood flow in arteries

Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing, 1977
A mathematical model is described which can be used to calculate blood flow in a normal artery from pressures measured at two separated points. The equations of motion of fluid in an elastic tube are simplified but sufficient realism is retained for the application to arterial flow.
