Flow modification by polymers in strong elongational flows

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1986
Flow modification by dilute solutions of polymers in strong elongational flows is analyzed using a two-state model according to which the polymer contribution to the stress balance in the fluid is negligible as long as the polymers are in their coiled state (or are in the process of stretching) and becomes significant as they approach their steady ...

On the Modifications of Flow Graphs

Journal of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, 1965
Graphs representing linear algebraic equations are known as flow graphs. If \(A\) is an \(n\) by \(n\) square matrix of coefficients, a graph on \(n\) vertices is associated with \(A\) as follows: an arc going from the vertex \(a_i\) to \(a_j\) appears with weight \(a_{ji}\) in the graph if and only if \(a_{ji} \ne 0\) in \(A\).

Vascular modifications induced by flow

American Heart Journal, 1956
Abstract 1. 1. Flow at critical velocities produced changes in the form of channels lined with a deformable silicone, with the development of structures superficially resembling those seen in blood vessels. These effects are attributed to the operation of mechanical forces. 2. 2.

Modification of Turbulent Flow Using Distributed Transpiration

Canadian Aeronautics and Space Journal, 2005
The long-term objective of this investigation is the development of techniques for re-arrangement and control of turbulent flows by using a suitably roughened wall. As a preliminary step towards this goal, we describe the analysis of the turbulent flow in a plane channel modified by a sinusoidal distribution of suction and blowing at the wall with zero

Modification of Tumour Blood Flow—a Review

International Journal of Radiation Biology, 1991
Tumour vascularization is based on two types of vessels, incorporated normal host tissue vessels and newly formed vessels, and is characterized by a wide heterogeneity. No adrenergic innervation has been related to newly formed tumour vessels but may still be found in incorporated normal vessels.

A Flow Graph Technique for DFT Controller Modification

2005 Joint 30th International Conference on Infrared and Millimeter Waves and 13th International Conference on Terahertz Electronics, 2005
This paper presents a novel DFT method which requires very small modification to a controller in RT-level description of a circuit. The control/data flow graph (CDFG) representation of an RTL circuit is used for analyzing the testability of individual RT-level operations within a hierarchical test technique.

CFD-Based Adaptive Flow Control for Steady Flow Field Modification

Proceedings of the 45th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2006
In this paper we demonstrate adaptive flow control for an incompressible viscous fluid through a two-dimensional channel without the use of an analytical model. An adaptive algorithm is implemented within a CFD simulation to control the performance variables, which are velocity components of the flow at downstream locations, to desired steady-state ...

Base Flow Modification by Streamwise Vortices: Application to the Control of Separated Flows

Volume 2: Fora, 2006
We first demonstrate the potential of cylindrical vortex generators to control the separation over a smoothly curved ramp in a low velocity hydrodynamic channel. We then focus on the influence of a row of four cylindrical vortex generators on a spatially growing flat plate boundary layer.

Modifications and Extensions to the Annular Flow Model

ASME 4th International Conference on Nanochannels, Microchannels, and Minichannels, Parts A and B, 2006
Boiling heat transfer to fluid flow in microchannel heat sinks is being looked upon as a promising solution to the problem of cooling microprocessors with large power densities. In the present work, an annular flow model [1] is implemented to investigate the boiling heat transfer and two-phase flow characteristics in microchannel heat sinks.

Modification of Mouse Nodal Flow by Applying Artificial Flow

2009
In mammalian development, the earliest left-right (L-R) asymmetry is nodal flow, which is a cilia-driven leftward fluid flow on the ventral surface of the node. The importance of nodal flow for L-R determination was demonstrated by experiments to modify nodal flow by imposing artificial fluid flow.
