Effectiveness of a Novel Low‐Density Lipoprotein Apheresis Device Rheocarna in Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis With Chronic Limb‐Threatening Ischemia: A Single‐Center Retrospective Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic limb‐threatening ischemia (CLTI) is a severe form of lower‐extremity artery disease characterized by distal lesions and microcirculatory impairment, limiting revascularization efficacy. Rheocarna is a direct hemoperfusion low‐density lipoprotein (LDL) adsorption device with potential rheological and anti‐inflammatory ...

Experimental Study of Oil–Water Flow Downstream of a Restriction in a Horizontal Pipe

open access: yesFluids
This work presents an experimental study on oil–water flow downstream of a restriction. The flow pattern, volumetric phase distribution, and their impacts on pressure drop are discussed. We employed two techniques to visualize the oil–water flow patterns,

Patterning Lines by Capillary Flows

open access: yesNano Letters, 2006
We report that capillary flows in an evaporating thin film create line patterns, with widths ranging from a few micrometers to less than 100 nm. Deliberate patterning of such lines requires contact-line pinning and the presence of foaming surfactants.

Prognosis of Long‐Term Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy and the Impact of Combined Continuous Intravenous Sodium Infusion Therapy

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Patients requiring long‐term continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) generally have poor prognoses. This study evaluated whether adding continuous intravenous sodium infusion (cIVNa) is associated with improved hemodynamics and outcomes in patients undergoing long‐term CRRT for ≥ 7 days.

Active control of hydrodynamic slug flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Multiphase flow is associated with concurrent flow of more than one phase (gas-liquid, liquid-solid, or gas-liquid-solid) in a conduit. The simultaneous flow of these phases in a flow line, may initiate a slug flow in the pipeline. Hydrodynamic slug flow

Establishing an Apheresis Medicine Program in a Resource‐Constrained Setting: A 5‐Year Experience From Lagos, Nigeria

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Establishing a comprehensive apheresis medicine program in a resource‐constrained setting presents significant structural, financial, and logistical challenges. Despite the growing clinical importance of apheresis services globally, published experience from sub‐Saharan Africa remains sparse.

Fluid dynamic analysis in predicting the recanalization of intracranial aneurysms after coil embolization – A study of spatiotemporal characteristics

open access: yesHeliyon
Purpose: Hemodynamics play a key role in the management of cerebral aneurysm recanalization after coil embolization; however, the most reliable hemodynamic parameter remains unknown.

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Complex Background Modeling and Motion Detection based on Texture Pattern Flow

open access: yes, 2008
This paper proposes a novel Texture Pattern Flow (TPF) for complex background modeling and motion detection. The Pattern Flow is proposed to encode the binary pattern changes among the neighborhoods in the space-time domain.
