Components of the flow stress of iron

Acta Metallurgica, 1967
Abstract Tensile tests have been made on a pure iron (99.97% pure; interstitial content 0.007 at.%) covering a total grain size range of 0.025–2 mm and a temperature range of −196 to +400°C. Dislocation densities were measured at various elongations up to 12 1 2% .

On the threshold stress for superplastic flow

Journal of Materials Science Letters, 1988

The flow stress of polycrystalline aluminium

Philosophical Magazine, 1957
Abstract It is shown that there is a strong correlation between flow stress and subgrain size in polycrystalline aluminium deformed in tension; the strength of the boundaries does not appear to depend on boundary angle. The variation of flow stress with temperature suggests that the strength controlling factor is elastic interaction.

Variation of Flow Birefringence with Stress

Nature, 1955
IN flowing liquids in which the same mechanism (for example, network deformation in a polymer solution) gives rise to birefringence and to stress, it is reasonable to expect these to vary together when factors such as rate of shear and concentration of solute are altered. Birefringence and stress require, for their complete description, ellipsoids, and

Shear Flow and Stresses in Ships

2010
The importance of calculating shear stress distribution for different ship types could be demonstrated by calculating the equivalent stresses at certain locations over the ship section. For certain types of ships such as container ships and bulk carriers, the shear stress could reach high values at certain sections along the ship length and also at ...
