Natural convection heat transfer from upward-facing horizontal heated surface with heated cylindrical pipe (Effects of design parameters)

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
The effects of design parameters on natural convection heat transfer from a horizontal heated surface with a heated cylindrical pipe were estimated experimentally. The parameters considered were the heat flux of the horizontal heater and the aspect ratio

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Characteristics of fluid flow and heat transfer of two-dimensional offset jet

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
The flow field of an offset jet is complex and is frequently found in many engineering devices. In this paper, the fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics of two-dimensional offset jet are investigated experimentally.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Visual Reconstructability as a Quality Metric for Flow Visualization [PDF]

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, 2011
AbstractWe present a novel approach for the evaluation of 2D flow visualizations based on the visual reconstructability of the input vector fields. According to this metric, a visualization has high quality if the underlying data can be reliably reconstructed from the image.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Using thermal tracers to estimate flow velocities of shallow flows: laboratory and field experiments

open access: yesJournal of Hydrology and Hydromechanics, 2015
Accurate measurement of shallow flows is important for hydraulics, hydrology and water resources management. The objective of this paper is to discuss a technique for shallow flow and overland flow velocity estimation that uses infrared thermography ...

Visualization of Interstitial Pore Fluid Flow

open access: yesJournal of Imaging, 2022
Pore scale analysis of flow through porous media is of interest because it is essential for understanding internal erosion and piping, among other applications. Past studies have mainly focused on exploring macroscopic flow to infer microscopic phenomena.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Aerodynamics of a wing body with different Winglet Cant Angle [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
Current aircraft was designed with winglet at the tip. Winglets reduce the drag and improve fuel efficiency and range. The winglets have been in use for nearly 90 years, but it have been remained fixed.
