A methodology for the modelling of the triggering of the vine flowering

open access: yesOENO One, 1995
The effect of temperature on the biological rythm of the vine is well known. Flowering is triggered when the thermal requirement is met, expressed in the form of an accumulation of daily temperature over a given threshold as from a precise date.

Colorful flowers

open access: yesTopology and its Applications, 2008
AbstractFor a set A let [A]k denote the family of all k-element subsets of A. A function f:[A]k→C is a local coloring if it maps disjoint sets of A into different elements of C. A family F⊆[A]k is called a flower if there exists E∈[A]k−1 so that |F∩F′|=E for all F,F′∈F, F≠F′. A flower is said to be colorful if f(F)≠f(F′) for any two F,F′∈F.

The effect of population structure, plant size, herbivory and reproductive potential on effective population size in the temperate epiphytic orchid, Sarcochilus australis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Distribution of plant size and reproductive success is investigated in the temperate epiphytic orchid Sarcochilus australis (Lindl.) Rchb. f. at Kinglake National Park, Victoria, in south-eastern Australia, and applied to estimating the effective ...

Evolution of complex flowering strategies: an age- and size-structured integral projection model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We explore the evolution of delayed age- and size-dependent flowering in the monocarpic perennial Carlina vulgaris, by extending the recently developed integral projection approach to include demographic rates that depend on size and age.

Mitochondria‐associated membranes (MAMs): molecular organization, cellular functions, and their role in health and disease

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Mitochondria‐associated membranes (MAMs) are contact sites between the endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria that regulate calcium signaling, lipid metabolism, autophagy, and stress responses. This review outlines their molecular organization, roles in cellular homeostasis, and how dysfunction drives neurodegeneration, metabolic disease, cancer, and ...

Evolution of flowering strategies in Oenothera glazioviana: an integral projection model approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The timing of reproduction is a key determinant of fitness. Here, we develop parameterized integral projection models of size-related flowering for the monocarpic perennial Oenothera glazioviana and use these to predict the evolutionarily stable strategy

Molecular basis of flowering under natural long-day conditions in Arabidopsis

open access: yesNature Plants, 2018
Plants sense light and temperature changes to regulate flowering time. Here, we show that expression of the Arabidopsis florigen gene, FLOWERING LOCUS T (FT), peaks in the morning during spring, a different pattern than we observe in the laboratory ...

HSP70 governs permeability and mechanotransduction in primary human endothelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HSP70 chemical inhibition reduces endothelial cell proliferation and increases permeability, the latter supported by normal interendothelial junctional protein distribution. HSP70 also plays a role in shear stress response, a hemodynamic force naturally present in blood vessels and correlated with vessel protection.
