Floral resource availability and surrounding land cover influence bumble bee community composition in an agricultural landscape

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
Multispecies occupancy models indicated that the occurrence of bumble bees was associated with local floral resources as well as the landscape surrounding a site within 1.6 km. Estimated species richness was greater at sites with more forest cover and lower at sites with more corn and soybean agriculture in the surrounding landscape.

Seasonal shifts in network structure and species roles in a tropical island plant–flower visitor community Cambios estacionales en la estructura de la red de interacciones entre plantas y visitantes florales y en los roles de las especies en una comunidad insular tropical

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
Constant visitation rates across the flowering season masked major shifts in plant and flower visitor interaction structure, specialization, species roles and trait‐driven patterns shaping interaction intensity. Plants and flower visitors changed ecological roles over time, with native flower visitors playing key roles in maintaining network cohesion ...

Environmental and seasonal filtering of taxonomic, functional and phylogenetic diversity patterns of mountain butterflies in a prime butterfly area, Greece

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
Forest clearings support butterfly communities comparable to mountainous grasslands in alpha‐diversity and conservation value, yet remain compositionally distinct. Generalized linear models (GLMs) showed three key habitat predictors shaping multifaceted diversity and community composition: herb/grass height, flowerhead abundance and elevation.

Mapping wild bee diversity and flower use for an effective conservation of the Doñana biodiversity hotspot

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
We compiled the first checklist of wild bees in Doñana Protected Area, documenting 385 species, including three vulnerable and one endangered species listed in the Red List. Bee species exhibit diverse floral preferences, highlighting the need to incorporate plant–pollinator interactions and the role of plants in conservation and management strategies ...

Synchronous Pulsed Flowering: Analysis of the Flowering Phenology in Juncus (Juncaceae) [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Botany, 2007
The timing of flowering within and among individuals is of fundamental biological importance because of its influence on total seed production and, ultimately, fitness. Traditional descriptive parameters of flowering phenology focus on onset and duration of flowering and on synchrony among individuals.

Skewness in bee and flower phenological distributions

Ecology, 2022
Abstract Phenological distributions are characterized by their central tendency, breadth, and shape, and all three determine the extent to which interacting species overlap in time. Pollination mutualisms rely on temporal co‐occurrence of pollinators and their floral resources, and although much work has been done to characterize the ...

Phenology of Sorghum Flowering

Crop Science, 1994
Understanding the phenology of flowering, the time when sorghum, Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench, is vulnerable to oviposition by the sorghum midge, Contarinia sorghicola (Coquillett), would improve the capability of managing this key sorghum insect pest and aid in developing control recommendations.
