Ion Concentration and Voltage Imaging With Fluorescent Nanodiamonds
We demonstrate reversible switching between the fluorescent NV0 and the dark NV+ state, in sub‐30 nm FNDs via surface oxidation and hydrogenation, respectively. In an electrochemical cell, we show that the fluorescence from hydrogenated particles enables all‐optical imaging of voltages and ion concentrations at the micrometer scale.

Re-evaluation of the background to the Wellman-Lord process [PDF]
This project focuses on the determination of the equilibrium partial pressure of sulphur dioxide above aqueous solutions of sodium sulphite / bisulphite typically found in the absorption section of a Wellman-Lord Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) plant ...

Alkoxy chain length drives a continuous transition from eclipsed AA to a serrated, slipped AA* configuration over Co‐porphyrin COFs. A moderate slip both contracts the pore channel to enrich CO2 and suppress hydrogen evolution, and enhances collective high‐spin of Co sites, which delivers a record CO production rate with high selectivity.

Radiation‐Matter Interaction in Chemical Vapor Deposition‐Grown Two‐Dimensional Tungsten Disulfide
Gamma irradiation tunes the magnetic properties of CVD‐grown WS2 material. Moderate irradiation doses induce low‐temperature ferromagnetic‐like behavior, whereas higher doses suppress the magnetic response because of increased defect formation. These findings provide insight into defect‐mediated magnetism in 2D TMDs and could be relevant to future ...

Fundamentals of Mercury Oxidation in Flue Gas [PDF]
The objective of this project was to understand the importance of and the contribution of gas-phase and solid-phase coal constituents in the mercury oxidation reactions. The project involved both experimental and modeling efforts. The team was comprised of the University of Utah, Reaction Engineering International, and the University of Connecticut ...

Gate‐Induced Critical Current Modulation in W–C Nanowires: The Role of Fabrication
Focused ion beam induced deposition (FIBID) enables precise control of superconducting W–C nanowire devices. Introducing a Ga+ focused ion beam (FIB) cleaning step reduces substrate damage and suppresses leakage currents, shifting gating thresholds to higher voltages.

Fundamental mechanisms in flue gas conditioning [PDF]
The overall goal of this research project is to formulate a mathematical model of flue gas conditioning. This model will be based on an understanding of why ash properties, such as cohesivity and resistivity, are changed by conditioning. Such a model could serve as a component of the performance models of particulate control devices where flue gas ...

Upscaling Pulsed Laser Fragmentation in Liquids by Advanced Free‐Flow Setups
Advanced flow setups providing thin colloid films are introduced to upscale pulsed laser fragmentation in liquids for sustainable nanoparticle synthesis. Their potential is demonstrated by yielding remarkably small ZnO nanoparticles of <7 nm. Numerical simulations complement the study, revealing that the superior performance can be attributed to ...
