Covariant fluid dynamics: a long wavelength approximation [PDF]

open access: yesClassical and Quantum Gravity, 2003
In this paper we consider the Long-Wavelength Approximation Scheme (LWAS) in the framework of the covariant fluid approach to general relativistic dynamics, specializing to the particular case of irrotational dust matter. We discuss the dynamics of these models during the approach to any spacelike singularity where a BKL-type evolution is expected ...

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Twenty-six moment equations for the Enskog–Vlasov equation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
The Enskog–Vlasov equation is a phenomenological kinetic equation that extends the Enskog equation for the dense (non-ideal) hard-sphere fluid by adding an attractive soft potential tail to the purely repulsive hard-sphere contribution.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Higher-Order Models for Resonant Viscosity and Mass-Density Sensors

open access: yesSensors, 2020
Advanced fluid models relating viscosity and density to resonance frequency and quality factor of vibrating structures immersed in fluids are presented. The numerous established models which are ultimately all based on the same approximation are refined,

Entropy optimized flow of Jeffrey fluid with radiation effect over a stretched surface

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2022
The theme of this paper is to scrutinize hydromagnetic flow of Jeffrey fluid subject to stretched curved sheet. Heat expression is developed through dissipation, magnetic force and radiation. Entropy generation is also studied.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Two-Level Finite Element Approximation for Oseen Viscoelastic Fluid Flow

open access: yesMathematics, 2018
In this paper, a two-level finite element method for Oseen viscoelastic fluid flow obeying an Oldroyd-B type constitutive law is presented. With the newly proposed algorithm, solving a large system of the constitutive equations will not be much more ...

Multilayer approximation for a confined fluid in a slit pore [PDF]

open access: yesPapers in Physics, 2010
A simple Lennard-Jones fluid confined in a slit nanopore with hard walls is studied on the basis of a multilayer structured model. Each layer is homogeneous and parallel to the walls of the pore.

A fluid approximation for large-scale service systems [PDF]

open access: yesACM SIGMETRICS Performance Evaluation Review, 2010
We introduce and analyze a deterministic fluid model that serves as an approximation for the Gt/GI/st + GI manyserver queueing model, which has a general time-varying arrival process (the Gt), a general service-time distribution (the first GI), a time-dependent number of servers (the st) and allows abandonment from queue according to a general ...
