Length Scale of Free Stream Turbulence and Its Impact on Bypass Transition in a Boundary Layer

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2017
An experimental investigation was carried out to study the turbulent flow over a flat plate in a subsonic wind tunnel. The enhanced level of turbulence was generated by five wicker grids with square meshes, and different parameters (diameter of the grid ...

Role of ethanol to water ratio in hydrogen production by ethanol steam reforming in atmospheric pressure 915 MHz microwave plasma

open access: yesScientific Reports
As interest in the hydrogen economy grows, the demand for efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable hydrogen production methods increases. In response, this work focuses on developing a small-scale hydrogen production method based on ethanol steam ...

A Study of Sensor Placement Optimization Problem for Guided Wave-Based Damage Detection

open access: yesSensors, 2019
Guided waves (GW) allow fast inspection of a large area and hence have attracted research interest from the structural health monitoring (SHM) community.

Fluid flow control with transformation media

open access: yes, 2011
We introduce a new concept for the manipulation of fluid flow around three-dimensional bodies. Inspired by transformation optics, the concept is based on a mathematical idea of coordinate transformations and physically implemented with anisotropic porous

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Damage assessment in wind turbine technology

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2017
The economic efficiency of wind turbines WT is strictly dependent on their availability and reliability. This problem is most important in the case of offshore wind turbines OWT.

INFLUENCE OF LIMITING WALLS ON SHOCK WAVE STRUCTURE IN SINGLE PASSAGE TEST SECTION WITH COMPRESSOR PROFILE

open access: yesTASK Quarterly, 2015
The shock wave boundary layer interaction on the suction side of a transonic compressor blade is one of the main objectives of the TFAST project (Transition Location Effect on Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interaction).

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Investigations of Marine Safety Improvements by Structural Health Monitoring Systems [PDF]

open access: yesTransNav, 2012
The paper presents a first approach of the structural health monitoring (SHM) system, dedicated to marine structures. The considered system is based on the fibre optic (FO) technique with Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors.
