ABSTRACT Background Many deaths after colorectal resection may be preventable, but administrative datasets provide limited insights into the clinical processes leading to mortality. We used the Australian and New Zealand Audit of Surgical Mortality (ANZASM) to quantify potentially preventable deaths after colorectal surgery and describe modifiable ...

Amputations in Sepsis Patients: A Population‐Based Cohort Study of Rates and Risk Factors
This cohort study of 158 842 sepsis patients revealed that between 2015 and 2021 in NSW, 11 in every 1000 adult sepsis patients and two in every 1000 paediatric sepsis patients underwent amputation. Male adults under 85 years with diabetes or peripheral arterial disease were at a higher risk of amputation. ABSTRACT Background A rare and serious adverse

In this historical pre–post cohort study, the implementation of physiological cardiotocography (PCI) interpretation was associated with reduced neonatal morbidity, neonatal acidosis, and neonatal unit admission. Adjusted cesarean section rates did not increase, supporting PCI as a promising approach to intrapartum fetal surveillance.

Local application of gentamicin for wound closure after full‐support microaxial flow pump therapy. ABSTRACT Background Surgically implanted microaxial flow pumps (mAFP) are increasingly used for cardiogenic shock treatment. Standard mAFP explantation is performed bedside with a shortening of the vascular prosthesis, which may represent a potential ...

Direct intraoperative HeartMate 3 LVAD flow measurements using an ultrasonic probe revealed consistently higher values by approximately 0.5 L/min compared to device‐estimated flows. This discrepancy remained stable across pump speed settings, highlighting the importance of distinguishing measured from estimated flow in HeartMate 3 patients.

In this meta‐analysis of 2 775 adult ECMO patients from non‐randomized studies, direct thrombin inhibitors and low‐molecular‐weight heparins demonstrated a favorable efficacy and safety profile over unfractionated heparin. These findings suggest them to be effective alternatives to unfractionated heparin, underscoring the urgent need for randomized ...
