Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Numerical modeling of lean hydrogen spark-ignition engines: On the role of intrinsic instabilities

open access: yesApplications in Energy and Combustion Science
Hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engines (H2-ICEs) hold strong potential as a pathway toward CO2-neutral propulsion. To reduce Image 1001 emissions, H2-ICEs are usually operated under fuel-lean conditions, where the flames are prone to thermo ...

Evaluation of the difference in gaze of expert and beginner in the phenomenon evaluation of fluid simulation

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2023
In the manufacturing industry, the transfer of knowledge of expert is an issue because the number of experts is decreasing. In order to support knowledge transfer, various support systems have been developed. However documenting knowledge and determining

Generalized newtonian fluid simulations [PDF]

open access: yes2013 Fourth National Conference on Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition, Image Processing and Graphics (NCVPRIPG), 2013
We present an approach to simulate both Newtonian and generalized Newtonian fluids using Lattice Boltzmann Method. The focus has been on accurately modelling non-Newtonian fluids at the micro channel level from biological fluids in the past. Our method can model macroscopic behaviour of such fluids by simulating the variation of properties such as ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

On the Influence of High Turbulence on the Convective Heat Flux on the High-Pressure Turbine Vane LS89

open access: yesInternational Journal of Turbomachinery, Propulsion and Power, 2019
High-pressure turbine vanes and blades are subjected to a turbulent combustor flow affecting the heat transfer and boundary layer transition, hence, the temperature distribution.

Diffusion in a granular fluid. II. Simulation [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2002
The linear response description for impurity diffusion in a granular fluid undergoing homogeneous cooling is developed in the preceeding paper. The formally exact Einstein and Green-Kubo expressions for the self-diffusion coefficient are evaluated there from an approximation to the velocity autocorrelation function.

Direct numerical simulation of complex viscoelastic flows via fast lattice-Boltzmann solution of the Fokker–Planck equation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Micro–macro simulations of polymeric solutions rely on the coupling between macroscopic conservation equations for the fluid flow and stochastic differential equations for kinetic viscoelastic models at the microscopic scale.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

An efficient multi-scale modelling approach for ssDNA motion in fluid flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The paper presents a multi-scale modelling approach for simulating macromolecules in fluid flows. Macromolecule transport at low number densities is frequently encountered in biomedical devices, such as separators, detection and analysis systems ...
