A Finite-Size Scaling Study of a Model of Globular Proteins

open access: yes, 2003
Grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations are used to explore the metastable fluid-fluid coexistence curve of the modified Lennard-Jones model of globular proteins of ten Wolde and Frenkel (Science, v277, 1975 (1997)).

Real‐World Performance of CSF Kappa Free Light Chains in the 2024 McDonald Criteria

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Kappa free light chains (KFLCs) in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) have a similar performance to CSF‐restricted oligoclonal bands (OCB) for multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis. To help with implementation, we set out to resolve several remaining uncertainties: (1) performance in a real‐world cohort and the 2024 McDonald criteria; (2 ...

On the potential of using mixture stratification for reducing the flashback propensity of hydrogen flames

open access: yesApplications in Energy and Combustion Science
Hydrogen burns without carbon emissions and can be produced from renewable energy sources. However, hydrogen premixed flames are prone to flashback due to (1) higher burning velocities and (2) stronger preferential diffusion effects compared to ...

Brownian dynamics of rigid particles in an incompressible fluctuating fluid by a meshfree method

open access: yes, 2015
A meshfree Lagrangian method for the fluctuating hydrodynamic equations (FHEs) with fluid-structure interactions is presented. Brownian motion of the particle is investigated by direct numerical simulation of the fluctuating hydrodynamic equations.

Unraveling the Molecular Mechanisms of Glioma Recurrence: A Study Integrating Single‐Cell and Spatial Transcriptomics

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Glioma recurrence severely impacts patient prognosis, with current treatments showing limited efficacy. Traditional methods struggle to analyze recurrence mechanisms due to challenges in assessing tumor heterogeneity, spatial dynamics, and gene networks.

The characteristics of shock wave loads from air blast near the water surface

open access: yesBaozha yu Chongji
Blasts near the water surface are one of the major threats to ships. Experiments were carried out to study the load characteristics of the shock wave on the water surface with TNT/RDX(40/60) explosives.

Integrating Real-Time Fluid Simulation with a Voxel Engine

open access: yesTHE COMPUTER GAMES JOURNAL, 2016
We present a method of adding sophisticated physical simulations to voxel-based games such as the hugely popular Minecraft (2012. http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Liquid), thus providing a dynamic and realistic fluid simulation in a voxel environment.

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Trends in Dermatopolymyositis Mortality, 1999–2022: A Nationwide Population‐Based Study, United States

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
We report the national burden of dermatopolymyositis mortality over the past quarter century using the US national vital statistics data. Age‐standardized mortality rates for dermatopolymyositis decreased at an annual rate of 3.8% each year, which was higher than the annual percent decrease for deaths from all other causes.

Soret and dufour impacts on radiative power-law fluid flow via continuously stretchable surface with varying viscosity and thermal conductivity

open access: yesScientific Reports
The intricate dynamics of mixed convective thermic and species transport in a power-law flowing fluid through a continuously stretched surface are investigated. The uniqueness of this study lies in the consideration of fluid variable thermic conductivity
