Fluid dynamics of dilatant fluids [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2012
Dense mixture of granules and liquid often shows a sever shear thickening and is called a dilatant fluid. We construct a fluid dynamics model for the dilatant fluid by introducing a phenomenological state variable for a local state of dispersed particles.

Fluid mechanics in fluids at rest [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2012
Using readily available experimental thermophoretic particle-velocity data it is shown, contrary to current teachings, that for the case of compressible flows independent dye- and particle-tracer velocity measurements of the local fluid velocity at a point in a flowing fluid do not generally result in the same fluid velocity measure.

Crawling in a Fluid [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
There is increasing evidence that mammalian cells not only crawl on substrates but can also swim in fluids. To elucidate the mechanisms of the onset of motility of cells in suspension, a model which couples actin and myosin kinetics to fluid flow is proposed and solved for a spherical shape.

Constraint Fluids

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, 2012
We present a fluid simulation method based on Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) in which incompressibility and boundary conditions are enforced using holonomic kinematic constraints on the density. This formulation enables systematic multiphysics integration in which interactions are modeled via similar constraints between the fluid pseudoparticles

Influence of oxidizer flow speed on the toxic species composition in laminar diffusion flame under weightless conditions

open access: yesEmergency Management Science and Technology
The molecular species composition of major toxic species, such as soot, CO and unburnt hydrocarbons from a boundary layer diffusion flame over heptane or dodecane surface at microgravity is numerically investigated.

Étude expérimentale des performances thermiques d’un nanofluide: eau-éthylène-glycol-Al2O3 [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Polytechnic Institute of Jassy: Constructions, Architechture Section, 2007
Une nouvelle classe de fluides composée par des nanoparticules métalliques en suspension dans un liquide, appelée nanofluide, est apparue récemment. Quelques études numériques et expérimentales ont montré que ces nouveaux fluides possedent une puissance ...

Vorticity constraints on a fluid/fluid interface [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics of Fluids, 2000
General relations among the components of the strain rate tensors and those of the tangential vorticities on the two sides of a liquid/gas interface are derived; kinematic constraints as well as the tangential-stress balance at the interface are used.

Robot locomotion by fluid–fluid interaction

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
AbstractThis paper describes a locomotion strategy for robots based on the interaction between two fluids, through the development of an untethered mobile robot. The fundamental principle of robot locomotion is to exploit the active deformations of ferrofluid caused by internal magnetic fields, which generate reaction forces to the surrounding fluid ...

Risk of Flame Acceleration Due to Accumulation of Unburnt Volatiles in Zero-Gravity Condition

open access: yesSci
This paper investigates the influence of ventilation conditions, including oxidizer flow speed and oxygen concentration, on major species composition in favor of estimating a risk of flame acceleration at reduced gravity. A two-step chemical reaction for
