Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Computational Modelling of Gas-Solid Hydrodynamics and Thermal Conduction in Gasification of Biomass in Fluidized- Bed Reactor

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2017
A computational fluid dynamic model is developed to describe the fluid–particle interaction inside a fluidised bed reactor. The proposed gasifier reactor is 5 kW self-sustaining fluidised bed with 500 mm height and 127 mm diameter. The selected feedstock ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

The Avalanche of Les Fonts d’Arinsal (Andorra): An Example of a Pure Powder, Dry Snow Avalanche

open access: yesGeosciences, 2020
On 8th February 1996, in the north-western part of Andorra in the Pyrenees, the Les Fonts d’Arinsal (LFd’A) pure powder avalanche was triggered, descending some 1200 m to the bottom of the Arinsal valley and continuing up the opposite slope for about 200

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

A Study of Solid Particles Feeding Tehnic by Fluidization Une technique d'alimentation en particules solides par fluidisation

open access: yesOil & Gas Science and Technology, 2006
The study of heterogeneous reactions in a drop tube furnace, at a laboratory scale, needs a continuous feeding and dispersing technic to yield mass flow rates as low as 1 g/h. In the present work, a solution based on fluidization, is proposed.

FP-TES: A Fluidisation-Based Particle Thermal Energy Storage, Part I: Numerical Investigations and Bulk Heat Conductivity

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Renewables should become more continuously available, reliable and cost-efficient to manage the challenges caused by the energy transition. Thus, analytic and numerical investigations for the layout of a pilot plant of a concept called Fluidisation-Based

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Modelling and Optimisation of Dual Fluidisation Bed Gasifiers for Production of Chemicals

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2015
Biomass gasification is used in a variety of processes that range from heating application to the production of chemicals. Dual Fluidised Bed Gasifiers (DBFG), with their efficient operation and clean output syngas, are being proposed for many such ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...
