The theory of fluidised bed coating
The Chemical Engineering Journal, 1970Abstract A general theory is presented to predict the rate of coating in a fluidised bed of polymer powders. The relations derived give the coating thickness as a function of residence time of the object in the bed, the thermal and the physical properties of the object, the gas flow rate, i.e.

Developments in fluidised-bed technologies
Applied Energy, 1988Conventional mobile-particle beds have been developed in order to store heat (or cold) for satisfying industrial and/or air-conditioning requirements by the use of thermally-active particles in which the principal storage mechanism is latent heat. Also fluidisation has been achieved, both in air and in high vacua, using ultrasonic stimulation.

Powder Technology, 1967
The paper begins by summarising theory and experimental data concerning the rate of rise of a large gas bubble or slug through an inviscid liquid in a vertical tube, or between two flat plates. Experimental data show that the theory can be used to predict the rise of slugs in fluidised beds.

Circulating fluidised bed hydrodynamics
Powder Technology, 2000Abstract Analysis is given for flow regimes in the riser of a circulating fluidised bed (CFB) in the range of gas velocities (2–8 m/s) and particulate solids fluxes (15–90 kg/m2 s) appropriate for a CFB combustor. It is shown that the simplest version of the core-annulus model gives the correct magnitudes of slip velocity and average solids hold-up ...

Fluidised beds clearing the air
Electronics and Power, 1985The emotive question of `acid rain? has brought the combustion of coal under the microscope of public scrutiny and has increased interest in the concept of fluidised-bed combustion.

Gas distributor in fluidised beds
Powder Technology, 1978Abstract Satisfactory performance of fluidised bed reactors in terms of bed characteristics, chemical conversion and power requirement for pumping the fluidising medium is influenced by the design features of gas distributors. In industrial practice multi-orifice types of distributors are frequently used.

A circulating liquid fluidised bed

Fluidised bed gas distributors
Powder Technology, 1979Abstract The literature on gas distributors for gas fluidised beds is reviewed from the point of view of stable operation of the bed. An equation is suggested relating the minimum value of the ratio of the distributor pressure drop for stable operation and the bed pressure drop to the aspect ratio of the bed.
