Soft Mechanical‐Electrical Logic Using Liquid Metal‐Filled 3D‐Printed Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present 3D‐printed soft mechanical–electrical logic elements that use liquid metal–filled silicone tubes actuated by thermoplastic polyurethane/polylactic acid (TPU/PLA) architectures to produce Boolean operations. Complementary normally open and normally closed unit cells perform repeatable binary transitions and can be combined into more complex ...

Liquid Fluidization

open access: yes, 2020
Liquid fluidization can be encountered in industrial practice in a variety of processes including particle classification and separation and backwashing of filter media. In any fluidized system, overall bed height changes with fluid velocity. This chapter introduces the correlation between voidage and fluid velocity and presents some observations on ...

Experimental study on fluidization of micronic powders [PDF]

open access: yesPowder Technology, 2005
The fluidization behavior of yttrium oxide (Y2O3) powders of high density and micronic diameter belonging to the group C of Geldart’s classification has been investigated.

Fluidization of cylinder particles in a fluidized bed

Advanced Powder Technology, 2017
Abstract An experimental study of the flow regimes and transitions in a fluidized bed (cross-section of 200 mm × 200 mm and height of 2000 mm) containing a mixture of cylindrical particles and silica sand is carried out. Six different flow regimes are identified: fixed bed (F), bubbling fluidization (B), transition fluidization (T), partial ...

Fluidization and Fluidized Bed

2019
This chapter introduces a multiscale method for modeling gas–solid flows, from steady-state modeling for quick engineering design, continuum model for industrial scale reactor simulation, discrete particle method for lab-scale reactor simulation to direct numerical simulation for exploring the underlying mechanics.

On partial fluidization in rotating fluidized beds

AIChE Journal, 1987
In a rotating fluidized bed, unlike in a conventional fluidized bed, the granules are fluidized layer by layer from the (inner) free surface outward at increasing radius as the gas velocity is increased. This is a very significant and interesting phenomenon and is extremely important in the design of these fluidized beds.

Fluidization And Fluidized Beds

2019
One of the most unusual types of equipment used by chemical engineers is the fluidized bed, a device in which solid particles, for example sand or catalyst particles, are made to behave like elements of a fluid, and hence are “fluidized”. The state of being fluidized, called “fluidization”, turns out to be advantageous for a number of important ...

Sound assisted fluidization of nanoparticle agglomerates

open access: yesPowder Technology, 2004
This paper presents some preliminary observations on sound-assisted fluidization of hydrophobic fumed silica nanoparticles (Degussa AerosilR R974, having a primary particle size of 12 nm) in the form of large 100 -400 Am agglomerates. The effect of sound

Fluidization Phenomena and Fluidized Bed Technology

1997
The term fluidization is used to designate the gas-solid contacting process in which a bed of finely divided solid particles is lifted and agitated by a rising stream of process gas. At the lower end of the velocity range, the amount of lifting is slight, the bed behaving like a boiling liquid (hence the term boiling bed).
