Standardised empirical dispersal kernels emphasise the pervasiveness of long‐distance dispersal in European birds

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 92, Issue 1, Page 158-170, January 2023., 2023
Introducing a statistical framework to estimate standardised dispersal kernels from biased data. The authors found strong evidence that long‐distance dispersal is common among European breeding bird species and across life stages. Their dispersal estimates for 234 bird species can guide selecting appropriate dispersal kernels in range expansion studies

The effect of labor‐market differentials on interregional migration in Spain: A meta‐regression analysis

open access: yesJournal of Regional Science, Volume 62, Issue 4, Page 913-937, September 2022., 2022

We use Spain as a case of study, a country with heterogeneous and even counterintuitive behavior of internal migration flows to its labor‐market drivers.

The beaten paths effect on patient inter‐regional mobility: An application to the Italian NHS

open access: yesPapers in Regional Science, Volume 101, Issue 4, Page 945-977, August 2022., 2022
Abstract We study inter‐regional migration flows due to hospital admissions and focus on the impact of migration beaten paths. We estimate a gravity model applied to Italian data for the period 2010–2016. We find that beaten paths have a positive effect on inter‐regional patient flows, with estimated elasticity equal to +0.32%.

We employ a regression discontinuity design to assess the causal relationship between the reception of large amounts of public funds and migration flows in the EU‐15 regions. In highly‐subsidised regions, we find a large increase in the

An exploratory analysis of the interactions between the determinants of migratory flows

open access: yesPapers in Regional Science, Volume 101, Issue 1, Page 163-182, February 2022., 2022
Abstract More than often, studies explaining migration causes centre on economic explanations and minimize other factors' explanatory power. This research aims at creating a comprehensive model of migration determinants taking into account four dimensions: economic, social, cultural, and digital.
