The tumor-initiating activities of benzo[a]fluoranthene (BaF), benzo[b]fluoranthene (BbF), naphtho[1,2-b]fluoranthene (NbF) and naphtho[2,1-a]fluoranthene (NaF) were evaluated on the skin of female CD-1 mice. Journal of the Chemical Society C: Organic, 1966The palladium–sulphur method has been used to dehydrogenate 3,4,5,6,7,8-hexahydro-1-(1,2,5,6,7,8-hexahydro-4-phenanthryl)anthracene to the title compound. Two intermediates, tetrahydrobenzo[a]-5,6,7,8-tetrahydronaphtho[1,2-j]fluoranthene and tetrahydrobenzo[a]naphtho[1,2-j]fluoranthene, were isolated and their structures established.

Triplet fluoranthenes: Aromaticity versus unpaired electrons
Journal of Molecular Modeling, 2010Three fluoranthenes and one substituted fluoranthene, 2,2-dimethyl-2H-dibenzo[cd,k]fluoranthene, were investigated using the unrestricted symmetry-broken and complete active space methods. It was shown that four Kekuléan hydrocarbons are diradicals, implying that their ground state is a triplet.
