Breakdown of the mirror image symmetry in the optical absorption/emission spectra of oligo(para-phenylene)s [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The absorption and emission spectra of most luminescent, pi-conjugated, organic molecules are the mirror image of each other. In some cases, however, this symmetry is severely broken.

Molecular Engineering for Enhanced Second‐Order Nonlinear Response in Spontaneously‐Oriented Evaporated Organic Films

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Intramolecular bridge‐locking frustrates detrimental anti‐parallel packing in evaporated organic films. This design enhances net polar orientation, leading to a twofold off‐resonance increase in the second‐order nonlinear susceptibility (χ(2)) without electric‐field poling.

Recent Advances in Homogeneous Metal-Catalyzed Aerobic C–H Oxidation of Benzylic Compounds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Csp(3)-H oxidation of benzylic methylene compounds is an established strategy for the synthesis of aromatic ketones, esters, and amides. The need for more sustainable oxidizers has encouraged researchers to explore the use of molecular oxygen.

Cinnamic‐Hydroxamic‐Acid Derivatives Exhibit Antibiotic, Anti‐Biofilm, and Supercoiling Relaxation Properties by Targeting Bacterial Nucleoid‐Associated Protein HU

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cinnamic‐hydroxamic‐acid derivatives (CHADs) are identified as novel inhibitors of the bacterial nucleoid‐associated protein HU, exhibiting potent antibacterial, anti‐biofilm (both inhibition and eradication), and DNA relaxation (anti‐supercoiling) activities. Moreover, CHADs demonstrate strong synergistic effects with multiple antibiotics.

(Sila)Difluoromethylation of Fluorenyllithium with CF3H and CF3TMS

open access: yesSynOpen, 2018
Difluoromethylation of the C9-H site of the fluorene ring using lithium base and fluoroform (CF3H), which is one of the most cost-effective difluoromethylating reagents, is attained to give difluoromethylated fluorenes with an all-carbon quaternary ...

Synthesis and characterization of a novel quaternary copolymerized thermoplastic copolyimide with excellent heat resistance, thermoplasticity, and solubility

open access: yeseXPRESS Polymer Letters, 2020
A series of novel quaternary copolymerized thermoplastic polyimides were successfully prepared with asymmetric diahydride: 3,4′-oxydiphthalic anhydride (a-ODPA) and symmetric anhydride: 4,4′-oxydiphthalicanhydride (s-ODPA), 9,9′-bis(4-aminophenyl ...

Benzo[a]fluoren-11-one [PDF]

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E Structure Reports Online, 2008
The mol-ecule of the title compound, C(17)H(10)O, is nearly planar, the largest deviation from the mean plane being 0.06 Å. The crystal structure is governed by π-π inter-actions, with centroid-centroid distances ranging from .559 to 3.730 Å.

Probing Ultrastrong Through‐Space Electronic Coupling in Donor‐Acceptor Systems at the Single‐Molecule Level

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A series of through‐space coupled donor‐acceptor (D–A) molecules is sandwiched between two electrodes to determine their single‐molecule conductance. As the D–A interaction weakens, single‐molecule conductance reduces while Flicker Noise PSD n‐value increases (coupling strength decreases).
