Background: Previous studies showed that confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) images of brain tumors acquired by a first-generation (Gen1) CLE system using fluorescein sodium (FNa) contrast yielded a diagnostic accuracy similar to frozen surgical sections

Evaluating performance in three-dimensional fluorescence microscopy [PDF]
In biological fluorescence microscopy, image contrast is often degraded by a high background arising from out of focus regions of the specimen. This background can be greatly reduced or eliminated by several modes of thick specimen microscopy, including ...

Ribonucleolytic resection is required for repair of strand displaced nonhomologous end-joining intermediates [PDF]
Nonhomologous end-joining (NHEJ) pathways repair DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) in eukaryotes and many prokaryotes, although it is not reported to operate in the third domain of life, archaea. Here, we describe a complete NHEJ complex, consisting of DNA

Curcumin Mitigates Immune-Induced Epithelial Barrier Dysfunction by Campylobacter jejuni [PDF]
Campylobacter jejuni (C. jejuni) is the most common cause of foodborne gastroenteritis worldwide. The bacteria induce diarrhea and inflammation by invading the intestinal epithelium. Curcumin is a natural polyphenol from turmeric rhizome of Curcuma longa,

Comparison of Adaptive Optics Scanning Light Ophthalmoscopic Fluorescein Angiography and Offset Pinhole Imaging [PDF]
Recent advances to the adaptive optics scanning light ophthalmoscope (AOSLO) have enabled finer in vivo assessment of the human retinal microvasculature. AOSLO confocal reflectance imaging has been coupled with oral fluorescein angiography (FA), enabling

Determination of fluorescein and fluorescein monoglucuronide excreted in urine.
A simple method for the fluorometric determination of fluorescein and fluorescein monoglucuronide in urine was developed. Free fluorescein was determined by measuring its native fluorescence at 494 nm excitation and 516 nm emission. The conjugate was determined as fluorescein after hydrolysis at 37°for 20 min with β-glucuronidase.

In this paper, a series of thiacalix[4]arenes were synthesized as potential theranostic molecules for antitumor therapy. We propose an original strategy for the regioselective functionalization of thiacalix[4]arene with a fluorescent label to obtain ...
