Matrix metalloproteinase-9 activity and a downregulated Hedgehog pathway impair blood-brain barrier function in an in vitro model of CNS tuberculosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Central nervous system tuberculosis (CNS TB) has a high mortality and morbidity associated with severe inflammation. The blood-brain barrier (BBB) protects the brain from inflammation but the mechanisms causing BBB damage in CNS TB are uncharacterized ...

Flow conveying and diagnosis with carbon nanotube arrays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Dense arrays of aligned carbon nanotubes are designed into strips, nanowicks, as a miniature wicking element for liquid delivery and potential microfluidic chemical analysis devices. Liquid wicks away along the nanowicks spontaneously.

Elucidating the kinetics of sodium fluorescein for fluorescence-guided surgery of glioma.

open access: yesJournal of Neurosurgery, 2019
OBJECTIVEThe use of the optical contrast agent sodium fluorescein (NaFl) to guide resection of gliomas has been under investigation for decades. Although this imaging strategy assumes the agent remains confined to the vasculature except in regions of ...

Classification of Human Retinal Microaneurysms Using Adaptive Optics Scanning Light Ophthalmoscope Fluorescein Angiography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Purpose. Microaneurysms (MAs) are considered a hallmark of retinal vascular disease, yet what little is known about them is mostly based upon histology, not clinical observation.

Reactivity of Antibodies Immobilized on Gold Nanoparticles: Fluorescence Quenching Study

open access: yesMolecules
Antibodies labeled with gold nanoparticles are widely used in analytical systems. Consequently, the choice of methods for producing such conjugates requires a precise determination of the retained reactivity of the antibodies.

Fluorescein angiography compared to three-dimensional measurements by the retinal thickness analyzer in classic choroidal neovascularization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Purpose: To compare and correlate imaging of classic subfoveal choroidal neovascularization (CNV) with noninvasive 3-dimensional imaging by the retinal thickness analyzer (RTA) to conventional fluorescein angiography (FA).

Tunable biohybrid hydrogels from coacervation of hyaluronic acid and PEO‐based block copolymers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Accurately tuning the macroscopic properties of biopolymer‐based hydrogels remains challenging due to the ill‐defined molecular architecture of the natural building blocks.

Fluorescein Aqueous Angiography in Live Normal Human Eyes

open access: yesJournal of glaucoma, 2018
Purpose: To evaluate aqueous humor outflow (AHO) in intact eyes of live human subjects during cataract surgery using fluorescein aqueous angiography. Methods: Aqueous angiography was performed in 8 live human subjects (56 to 86 y old; 2 men and 6 women).

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Comparison of Adaptive Optics Scanning Light Ophthalmoscopic Fluorescein Angiography and Offset Pinhole Imaging [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Recent advances to the adaptive optics scanning light ophthalmoscope (AOSLO) have enabled finer in vivo assessment of the human retinal microvasculature. AOSLO confocal reflectance imaging has been coupled with oral fluorescein angiography (FA), enabling
