Implantable Photonic Neural Probes with 3D-Printed Microfluidics and Applications to Uncaging [PDF]
Advances in chip-scale photonic-electronic integration are enabling a new generation of foundry-manufacturable implantable silicon neural probes incorporating nanophotonic waveguides and microelectrodes for optogenetic stimulation and electrophysiological recording in neuroscience research. Further extending neural probe functionalities with integrated

Since its first description in 1959, 5,5’-dithio-bis(2-nitrobenzoic acid) (DTNB or Ellman s reagent) has been used widely for the quantification of thiols, especially for assays of various enzymes including acetyland butyrylcholinesterase (AChE and BChE,

Squeezed Light Induced Two-photon Absorption Fluorescence of Fluorescein Biomarkers [PDF]
Two-photon absorption (TPA) fluorescence of biomarkers has been decisive in advancing the fields of biosensing and deep-tissue in vivo imaging of live specimens. However, due to the extremely small TPA cross section and the quadratic dependence on the input photon flux, extremely high peak-intensity pulsed lasers are imperative, which can result in ...

QZ1 and QZ2: rapid, reversible quinoline-derivatized fluoresceins for sensing biological Zn(II).
QZ1, 2-[2-chloro-6-hydroxy-3-oxo-5-(quinolin-8-ylaminomethyl)-3H-xanthen-9-yl]benzoic acid, and QZ2, 2-[6-hydroxy-3-oxo-4,5-bis-(quinolin-8-ylaminomethyl)-3H-xanthen-9-yl]benzoic acid, two fluorescein-based dyes derivatized with 8-aminoquinoline, have ...

The complex mode of action of the topoisomerase II inhibitor etoposide in triggering apoptosis involves several mechanisms: overexpression of the mitochondrial protein VDAC1, leading to its oligomerization and formation of a large channel that mediates the release of pro‐apoptotic protein; and overexpression of the apoptosis regulators p53, Bax, and ...

This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Selective Hg(II) detection in aqueous solution with thiol derivatized fluoresceins.
The syntheses and photophysical properties of mercury sensors 2 and 3 (MS2 and MS3), two asymmetrically derivatized fluorescein-based dyes designed for Hg(II) detection, are described. These sensors each contain a single pyridyl-amine-thiol metal-binding
