A bacterial cysteine protease effector protein interferes with photosynthesis to suppress plant innate immune responses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas syringae pv tomato DC3000 suppresses plant innate immunity with effector proteins injected by a type III secretion system (T3SS).

Isolation and Characterization of Precise Dye/Dendrimer Ratios [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Fluorescent dyes are commonly conjugated to nanomaterials for imaging applications using stochastic synthesis conditions that result in a Poisson distribution of dye/particle ratios and therefore a broad range of photophysical and biodistribution ...

QZ1 and QZ2: rapid, reversible quinoline-derivatized fluoresceins for sensing biological Zn(II).

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2005
QZ1, 2-[2-chloro-6-hydroxy-3-oxo-5-(quinolin-8-ylaminomethyl)-3H-xanthen-9-yl]benzoic acid, and QZ2, 2-[6-hydroxy-3-oxo-4,5-bis-(quinolin-8-ylaminomethyl)-3H-xanthen-9-yl]benzoic acid, two fluorescein-based dyes derivatized with 8-aminoquinoline, have ...

Bioorthogonal fluorescent labels: a review on combined forces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This review ventures to summarize the latest developments in bioorthogonal fluorescent imaging labels with a special focus on bioimaging applications. We briefly summarize the most preferred means of bioorthogonal tagging schemes for the labeling

Inhibition of CDK9 enhances AML cell death induced by combined venetoclax and azacitidine

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The CDK9 inhibitor AZD4573 downregulates c‐MYC and MCL‐1 to induce death of cytarabine (AraC)‐resistant AML cells. This enhances VEN + AZA‐induced cell death significantly more than any combination of two of the three drugs in AraC‐resistant AML cells.

Nox2 redox signaling maintains essential cell populations in the brain. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are conventionally classified as toxic consequences of aerobic life, and the brain is particularly susceptible to ROS-induced oxidative stress and damage owing to its high energy and oxygen demands.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Bioorthogonal Swarming: In Situ Generation of Dendrimers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
With the aid of bioorthogonal chemistry, we demonstrate the fabrication of synthetic dendrimers in situ around living cells. Using tetrazine dienophile and aminooxyl/hydrazide aldehyde chemistries, the density of functional groups on the dendrimers ...

Genetically encoded proton sensors reveal activity-dependent pH changes in neurons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The regulation of hydrogen ion concentration (pH) is fundamental to cell viability, metabolism, and enzymatic function. Within the nervous system, the control of pH is also involved in diverse and dynamic processes including development, synaptic ...

Selective Hg(II) detection in aqueous solution with thiol derivatized fluoresceins.

open access: yesInorganic Chemistry, 2006
The syntheses and photophysical properties of mercury sensors 2 and 3 (MS2 and MS3), two asymmetrically derivatized fluorescein-based dyes designed for Hg(II) detection, are described. These sensors each contain a single pyridyl-amine-thiol metal-binding
