A fluorescent probe for ecstasy

Chemical Communications, 2015
A novel nanoarchitecture based on a pyrene-decorated tetraphosphonate cavitand embedded in nanoparticles is reported, which is able to sense the whole class of methamphetamines and related designer drugs in water, but gives a unique, distinctive, response towards ecstasy.

A Fluorescence and Fluorescence Probe Study of Benzonaphthyridines

Journal of Fluorescence, 2011
A series of benzo[b][1,8]naphthyridines has been synthesized by Friedländer condensation of 2-aminoquinoline-3-carbaldehyde 1 (o-aminoaldehyde) with alicyclic ketones in basic medium. Benzonaphthyridines branched with various side-chains and substituents are prepared with the aim of being investigated as a good fluorescent material.

Fluorescence, Fluorescent Probes, and Optically Absorbing Probes

1974
Excitable molecules can be promoted into an upper singlet electronic state,* such as S 2 of Fig. 7.1 by absorption of energy.

Fluorescent probes in membrane studies

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. B, Biological Sciences, 1972
Abstract A number of spectroscopic techniques are suitable for studying biological membranes. Of these, fluorescence has the sensitivity and time resolution for following membrane events associated with nerve excitation. In this paper, the nature of the information derived from measurements of the fluorescence properties of externally

Fluorescent Probes of Cell Signaling

Annual Review of Neuroscience, 1989
Fluorescence has long been recognized as a powerful tool for probing biological structure and function. Because probe molecules can be very much more fluorescent than the constituents of most biological specimens, the signal for the exogenous fluorophores can be measured continuously and nondestructively with excellent spatial and temporal resolution ...

Free-Probe Fluorescence of Light-up Probes

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2001
The fluorescence enhancement of light-up probes (thiazole orange (TO) conjugated peptide nucleic acids (PNAs)) upon hybridization to target nucleic acid depends on the probe sequence, mainly due to large variations in free-probe fluorescence. Here we study three probes where the fluorescence in free state varies more than 50-fold.

Novel fluorescent colloids as a DNA fluorescence probe

Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2003
Fluorescent perylene colloids in the 80-90 nm size range have been prepared by the reprecipitation method. These nanoparticles were modified by cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) which inhibited their growth. The nanoparticles also readily interacted with DNA. The fluorescence emission was measured at lambda(ex)/ lambda(em)=400/565 nm.

Fluorescent probes for bioimaging applications

Current Opinion in Chemical Biology, 2008
Fluorescent probes based on small organic molecules have become indispensable tools in modern biology because they provide dynamic information concerning the localization and quantity of the molecules of interest, without the need of genetic engineering of the sample.

Fluorescent probes for opioid receptors

Life Sciences, 1983
Naloxone, naltrexone and oxymorphone were labeled in position 6 with fluorescein by coupling their hydrazone analogs with fluorescein isothiocyanate. Naloxone was also coupled in a similar way with rhodamine-B. The compounds thus obtained were: "6-FN", [1-(N)-fluoresceinyl naloxone thiosemicarbazone]; "6-FNX", [1-(N)-fluoresceinyl naltrexone ...

Fluorescent probes for detecting cysteine

Methods and Applications in Fluorescence, 2018
Cysteine plays a crucial role in physiological processes. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a method for detecting cysteine. Fluorimetry has the advantages of convenient detection, short response time, high sensitivity and good selectivity. In this review, fluorescent probes that detect cysteine over the past three years are summarized based on ...
