Pretreatments of Hydrocarbon and Fluorocarbon Polymers

The Journal of Adhesion, 1992
Abstract Pretreatments of polyolefins and fluoropolymers are usually necessary to achieve satisfactory adhesion for bonding and related technologies. In this paper results for various pretreatments of these polymers are presented. These are the treatment of polyolefins with aqueous reagents, dilute fluorine and a natural gas flame, the treatment of ...

The determination of sulphur in fluorocarbon polymers by neutron activation

Analytica Chimica Acta, 1969
Abstract Sulphur can be determined in fluorocarbon polymers and other fluorine compounds by neutron irradiation to convert sulphur-32 to phosphorus-32 by the (n,p) reaction. The phosphorus produced is determined by a substoichiometric extraction of vanadomolybdophosphoric acid, followed by measurement of β-emission. The method is satisfactory for sub-

Fluorocarbon bibenzoxazole polymers: Transitions and thermal stability

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1975
AbstractThe thermomechanical behavior (−180° to 500°C) in nitrogen is reported for two fluorocarbon bibenzoxazole homopolymers and a corresponding copolymer. The dynamic mechanical spectra were generated at low frequencies (∼1 Hz) by an adaptation of the torsional pendulum, torsional braid analysis (TBA), which uses polymer/glass braid composites as ...

Electrical conduction in thin polymer fluorocarbon films

Thin Solid Films, 1975
Abstract The current-voltage characteristics of thin polymer fluorocarbon films with thicknesses between 0.02 and 1.50 μm, deposited by different methods and with different contact materials, have been studied. Over the whole range of thickness and field strength investigated the measured characteristics can be described by a uniform conduction ...

Liquid-crystalline fluorocarbon-hydrocarbon microblock polymers

Macromolecules, 1993
A series of novel segmented main chain polymers has been synthesized. The segments are regularly alternating and are composed of repeating units where m,n = 6,6; 6,8; 6,10; and 4,10. The rigid fluorocarbon segment acts as a mesogenic agent and the polymers exhibit liquid crystalline behavior.

Hydrolytically stable fluorocarbon ether bibenzoxazole polymers

Journal of Polymer Science: Polymer Chemistry Edition, 1981
AbstractHydrolytically and thermooxidatively stable fluorocarbon ether bibenzoxazole (FEB) polymers were synthesized by the acetic acid‐promoted polycondensation of fluorocarbon ether bis(o‐aminophenol) monomers with novel fluorocarbon ether dithioimidate ester monomers.

Fluorocarbon-Modified Water Soluble Polymers

1994
Copolymers of acrylamide (AM) and perfluoroalkyl acrylates and -methacrylates were synthesized in aqueous media containing perfluoroalkyl carboxylates and acetone as surfactants and dispersing agents, respectively and persulfates as initiators. The copolymers, especially those with 2(N-ethylperfluoro octane sulfoamido) acrylate (RFA) as comonomers were

3He-19F interaction at the surface of fluorocarbon polymers

Journal of Low Temperature Physics, 1989
The interaction between19F nuclear spins in Teflon and3He spins on its surface has been studied in magnetic fields up to 6 Tesla. At temperatures below 1 K, a monolayer of3He is sufficient to increase the NMR relaxation rate of19F more than an order of magnitude over the value with vacuum or with a coverage of pure4He.

New Phosphorus-Fluorocarbon Hybrid Polymer Systems

Phosphorus, Sulfur, and Silicon and the Related Elements, 1999
The thermally-induced cyclodimerization of aryl-trifluorovinyl ethers (TFVE, 1) readily affords highly stable and processible perfluorocyclobutane (PFCB, 2) polymers, many of which have useful optical, mechanical, and/or surface properties. We report here on the synthesis and characterization of some novel TFVE and PFCB functionalized phosphorus-based ...

An infrared structural study of fluorocarbon polymers

Journal of Polymer Science Part A: General Papers, 1965
AbstractThe 3μ infrared spectra of copolymers of ethylene and 1,1‐difluoroethylene with chlorotrifluoroethylene have been investigated. By applying “dilute solution” techniques, models for head‐to‐head and head‐to‐tail polymers have been prepared and spectrally characterized.
