Fluvial terraces of the lower Susquehanna River

Geomorphology, 1993
Abstract Fluvial terraces of the lower Susquehanna River offer a unique opportunity to investigate the late stage geologic and geomorphic evolution of the U.S. Atlantic passive margin. Petrography and elevation distinguish and provide a basis for correlation of two groups of terraces, the upland terraces and lower terraces, through the Piedmont ...

Chronosequence in Almar River Fluvial‐Terrace Soil

Soil Science Society of America Journal, 1994
Abstract The aim of this work was to analyze how soils formed fundamentally from the erosion of granites evolve under a subhumid Mediterranean climate as a function of age. Their evolution was evaluated by means of the changes in components and properties, as well as the use of developmental indices.

Significance of Terrace Deposits in Fluvial Sequence Stratigraphy

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013
The terrace deposits in a river valley are key records to the research of fluvial sequence stratigraphy. Terrace deposits and the basal sequence boundary comprise the half-cycle of base level fall, and the fluvial infillings belong to the half-cycle of base level rise.

Holocene monsoonal dynamics and fluvial terrace formation in the northwest Himalaya, India

Geology, 2006
Aluminum-26 and beryllium-10 surface exposure dating on cut-and-fill river-terrace surfaces from the lower Sutlej Valley (northwest Himalaya) documents the close link between Indian Summer Monsoon (ISM) oscillations and intervals of enhanced fluvial incision.

Relict fluvial terraces on the Tsondab Flats, Namibia

Journal of Arid Environments, 1979
Within the hyper-arid central dune Namib, the dune-free Tsondab Flats, extending 40 km west from Tsondab Vlei, are characterized by terraced topography incised into a conglomerate-capped red sandstone. The hypothesis is posed that the terraces are fluvial in origin and that they preserve a record of fluvial incision and arid interruption.

Modelling the impact of regional uplift and local tectonics on fluvial terrace preservation

Geomorphology, 2014
A terrace formation model (TERRACE) combined with a longitudinal river profile model (FLUVER) was used to simulate fluvial terrace formation and preservation in the northwest Iberian lower Miño River basin under the influence of three tectonic conditions; namely regional vertical uplift, local basin subsidence, and localised differential uplift.

Simulating internal and external controls on fluvial terrace stratigraphy: a qualitative comparison with the Maas record

Geomorphology, 2000
Palaeohydrological studies indicate that the use of sedimentary palaeoclimatic indicators in fluvial sediments still requires rigorous calibration of the climatic controls on the formation of those indicators. An explorative attempt is made using a simulation experiment with the FLUVER2 model.

Ultramafic Aridisols on a sequence of fluvial terraces in Baja California

Geoderma Regional, 2019
Abstract Practically all arid ultramafic soils in North America are in Baja California. An arid watershed in Baja California was found to have terraces with soil parent materials dominated by serpentinized peridotite. The soils on a sequence of four fluvial surfaces in the watershed were studied in order to trace the path of serpentine soil ...

The impact of river capture on fluvial terraces and bedrock incision

Earth Surface Processes and Landforms
AbstractRiver terraces are commonly used to infer climate and tectonic histories. Yet, it is increasingly recognised that other processes, such as river capture, can affect river terrace genesis and incision rates and patterns. In this study, we conduct a field‐based investigation of river terrace sequences along the Kolokithas and Varitis Rivers in ...

An Ipswichian fluvial deposit at Fulbeck, Lincolnshire and the chronology of the Trent terraces

Journal of Quaternary Science, 1988
AbstractMammalian fossils recently discovered near Fulbeck in Lincolnshire, include abundant hippopotamus, suggesting an Ipswichian date for the Fulbeck Sand and Gravel (new name). These deposits mark a former course of the River Witham; clasts indicate derivation from outcrops of Jurassic rocks and chalky till to the south and south‐east.
