Fluvial cut-and-fill terraces record climate oscillations

2020
Using a model of long-term fluvial erosion and sediment transport (Yuan et al., 2019, JGR-SE), we demonstrate and quantify a direct, physical explanation for the relationship between climate oscillations and the formation of fluvial cut-and-fill terraces.

Distribution and Forming Model of Fluvial Terrace in the Huangshui Catchment and its Tectonic Indication

Acta Geologica Sinica - English Edition, 2010
Abstract:The Huang Shui River, a main tributary of the Yellow River, crosses a series of tectonically subsided and uplifted areas that show different patterns of terrace formation. The distribution of fluvial terrace of the Huang Shui River is studied through topographic and sedimentologic terrace mapping.

River terrace development by concurrent fluvial processes and climatic changes

Geomorphology, 1993
Abstract Along the Usui River in central Japan, three well-developed terrace levels are observed. Each terrace is subdivided into two segments: a filltop terrace along the upper reach and a strath terrace along the lower one. Three valley fillings with coarse gravel beds in the upper reach correspond to the last three glacial ages.

Fluvial terrace formation and controls in the Lower River Danube, SE Romania

Quaternary International, 2019
Abstract The Black Sea climatically-driven level change is the main control of the Lower Danube incision and aggradation in the long-term subsiding setting of the Eastern Romanian Plain. The interglacial episodes of aggradation suggest a decreasing fluvial accommodation.

Bedrock fluvial incision and longitudinal profile development over geologic time scales determined by fluvial terraces

1998
Fluvial terraces preserve the history of river incision into bedrock over geologic time scales. In this paper we use terraces and a comparison of terrace longitudinal profiles to stream longitudinal profiles to develop a conceptual model of bedrock fluvial incision in diverse geologic, tectonic, and climatic settings.

Cosmogenic dating of fluvial terraces in the Sorbas Basin, SE Spain

2014
Long term fluvial incision spanning the Late Cenozoic is recorded in many fluvial systems around the world by terrace landform sequences. The incision manifests itself as inset sequences of river terraces which form terrace staircases. The timing of the onset of incision and the rate incision then proceeds at is poorly constrained due to the ...
