Magnetic Flux Concentration and Zonal Flows in Magnetorotational Instability Turbulence

open access: yes, 2014
Accretion disks are likely threaded by external vertical magnetic flux, which enhances the level of turbulence via the magnetorotational instability (MRI).

Counter Chemotactic Flow in Quasi-One-Dimensional Path [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Quasi-one-dimensional bidirectional particle flow including the effect of chemotaxis is investigated through a modification of the John-Schadschneider-Chowdhury-Nishinari model.

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

Finite Element Modelling of Flux Density Distribution in Three Phase Transformer Under Nonlinear Load Condition

open access: yesApplications of Modelling and Simulation, 2018
For a transformer under linear load operation, the current into the magnetic material core consists of only fundamental component. However under nonlinear load, the current consists of fundamental and harmonic components with certain percentage of ...

Control for nuclear thermionic power source [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
A control for a power source which includes nuclear fuel interspersed with thermionic converters, is described. A power regulator maintains a substantially constant output voltage to a variable load, and a control circuit drives a neutron flux regulator ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Flux density measurement for industrial-scale solar power towers using the reflection off the absorber

open access: yesSOLARPACES 2018: International Conference on Concentrating Solar Power and Chemical Energy Systems, 2014
For separate acceptance tests of a solar power tower’s heliostat field and receiver, it is necessary to determine the solar flux density distribution over the whole absorber surface.

The Angular Size - Flux Density Relation [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1977
The relation between angular size and flux density depends on the world model and more strongly on evolution in radio source properties with epoch. I shall consider here the simplest forms of evolution that explain the observed θ-S relations (Swarup 1975; Kapahi 1975a,b; Ekers, this symposium).

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Determination of critical current density from arbitrary flux relaxation process

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2012
The current-carrying ability of a type-II superconductor is generally represented by its critical current density. This can be determined by measuring a flux relaxation process starting with a testing current density that is greater than or equal to the ...
