Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

New limiter regions for multidimensional flows [PDF]

open access: yes
Accurate transport algorithms are crucial for computational fluid dynamics and more accurate and efficient schemes are always in development. One dimensional limiting is commonly employed to suppress nonphysical oscillations.

Advancing SOLPS-ITER validation with TCV L-mode discharges

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
This work advances the quantitative validation of SOLPS-ITER against Tokamak à Configuration Variable ( TCV ) ohmic L-mode discharges. It shows that the treatment of the ion parallel heat flux limiter and the assumptions adopted for chemical sputtering ...

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

An analytical expression for ion velocities at the wall including the sheath electric field and surface biasing for erosion modeling at JET ILW

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2017
For simulation of plasma-facing component erosion in fusion experiments, an analytical expression for the ion velocity just before the surface impact including the local electric field and an optional surface biasing effect is suggested.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

A constant heat flux plasma limiter for Textor

open access: yes, 1980
In future large tokamak machines heat removal from the plasma is going to play an important rol . In TEXTOR /1/ the total plasma power is expected to be in the range of 0.5 - 2.5 MW.

A note on contractive semi-groups on a 1:1 junction for scalar conservation laws and Hamilton–Jacobi equations

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Mathématique
We characterize the continuous semi-groups on $L^1(\mathbb{R})$ which coincide with a scalar conservation law $\rho _t+(f(\rho ))_x=0$ in $\mathbb{R}_+\times (\mathbb{R}\setminus \lbrace 0\rbrace )$ and are $L^1$-contracting.

Decoding the dynamic extracellular matrix in cancer—3D models and bioscaffolds rewire the rules of tumor progression

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cancer progression is regulated by the dynamic matrix code of the tumor microenvironment, which influences cellular behavior and disease development. Importantly, matrix remodeling in three‐dimensional cancer models more accurately reflects in vivo conditions compared to conventional two‐dimensional systems.

Investigating transcription factor dynamics in health and disease using FRAP

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
FRAP analysis of GFP‐tagged transcription factors reveals how molecular mobility and target engagement change in response to drug treatment. By combining live‐cell imaging, quantitative model fitting, and statistical analysis, this approach uncovers transcription factor dynamics linked to disease mechanisms, providing a powerful framework for ...
