Single-point machining technology of a supersmooth surface using a flying tool

open access: yesNanotechnology, 1991
Single-point machining technology using a flying tool has been proposed in order to turn a supersmooth surface independently of error motions on the machine tool in use. In the process, a discoid slider with a sapphire chip follows the prefinished surface by the action of a hydrodynamic bearing. The cutting mechanism of the technology was investigated:

Multimodal Human–Robot Interaction Using Human Pose Estimation and Local Large Language Models

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A multimodal human–robot interaction framework integrates human pose estimation (HPE) and a large language model (LLM) for gesture‐ and voice‐based robot control. Speech‐to‐text (STT) enables voice command interpretation, while a safety‐aware arbitration mechanism prioritizes gesture input for rapid intervention.

From Lab to Landscape: Environmental Biohybrid Robotics for Ecological Futures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This Perspective explores environmental biohybrid robotics, integrating living tissues, microorganisms, and insects for operation in real‐world ecosystems. It traces the leap from laboratory experiments to forests, wetlands, and urban environments and discusses key challenges, development pathways, and opportunities for ecological monitoring and ...

Development of SNP assays for hessian fly response genes, Hfr-1 and Hfr-2, for marker-assisted selection in wheat breeding

open access: yesBMC Genetics, 2018
Background The Hessian fly response genes, Hfr-1 and Hfr-2, have been reported to be significantly induced in a Hessian fly attack. Nothing is known about the allelic variants of these two genes in susceptible (S) and resistant (R) wheat cultivars ...

Intelligent Sky Guardians (InSkyGuard): An Aerial Robotic Swarm for Autonomous Detection and Entrapment of Rogue Multirotors

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Intelligent Sky Guardians (InSkyGuard) is introduced as a four‐drone swarm that autonomously detects, tracks, and safely captures rogue drones using a coordinated net system. Computer vision and leader–follower control architecture enable synchronized enclosure, while integrated failsafes enhance system reliability. Validated through closed‐environment

Assessing the economic injury threshold and decay of performance after onset due to horn fly abundance in beef cattle

open access: yesFrontiers in Animal Science
Horn flies (Haematobia irritans) are one of the most damaging ectoparasites for the cattle industry due to their negative impact on animal productivity, reproductive efficiency, and overall welfare.

Stiffness‐Programmable Origami Robots With Tendon‐Driven Actuation via Multimaterial 3D Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Motion diversity is achieved in a tendon‐driven origami robot through programmable stiffness rather than modified actuation. Multimaterial 3D printing embeds soft creases, modular inserts redirect identical tendon inputs into distinct behaviors, and variable‐stiffness inserts enable real‐time switching.

Machine Learning for Green Solvents: Assessment, Selection and Substitution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Environmental regulations have intensified demand for green solvents, but discovery is limited by Solvent Selection Guides (SSGs) that quantify solvent sustainability. Training a machine learning model on GlaxoSmithKline SSG, a database of sustainability metrics for 10,189 solvents, GreenSolventDB is developed. Integrated with Hansen solubility metrics,

Synthetic Toll‐Like Receptors for Control of Innate Immunity With Far‐Red Light

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Synthetic Toll‐like receptors (TLRs) are engineered by replacing their natural sensing regions with a far‐red‐light‐responsive module from a bacterial phytochrome. These synthetic receptors enable light‐controlled regulation of immune signaling in mammalian cells.

Experimental study on the road performance of reduced density fly ash–clayey sand subgrade mixtures from the Yellow River floodplain

open access: yesFrontiers in Mechanical Engineering
To address challenges in subgrade construction using Yellow River floodplain soils, this study developed a reduced density filler by mixing aged fly ash with locally sourced clayey sand. The research aimed to establish a robust framework for bridging the
