Product Positioning and Incentives to Innovate
ABSTRACT This paper shows that product positioning affects the incentives to invest in process innovation. The result is found using a model of price competition with three firms under horizontal product differentiation—and then extended to a more general Bertrand triopoly.

ABSTRACT Conductive pitch‐based porous carbon materials were synthesized and systematically investigated as high‐performance electrode materials for supercapacitors. Petroleum‐derived pitch was thermally treated and chemically activated using KOH and NaOH at different pitch: activating agent molar ratio (1:1, 1:2, and 1:4) to optimize the pore ...

Conventional battery energy storage system models assume constant efficiencies, overlooking key physical limitations. This work introduces an analytical model with realistic state‐of‐charge (SOC)‐dependent efficiencies and charge acceptance, predicting that system operation concentrates in intermediate SOC ranges—a critical, overlooked behaviour ...

Flywheel Energy Storage: An Alternative to Batteries For UPS Systems
ABSTRACT Direct current (DC) system flywheel energy storage technology can be used as a substitute for batteries to provide backup power to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system. Although the initial cost will usually be higher, flywheels offer a much longer life, reduced maintenance, a smaller footprint, and better reliability compared to a ...
