Flywheel Energy Storage for Spacecraft Power Systems
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1999<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Using the presently available technologies in the fiber composite rotors and in magnetic bearings, it is feasible to design the flywheel energy storage to replace the battery in the spacecraft power system. The potential benefits are reductions in weight, size and cost.

A new energy storage system based on flywheel
2009 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2009This paper proposes a new Energy Storage System based on flywheel called the multi-functional Flexible Power Conditioner (FPC). It consists of the doubly-fed induction machine (DFIM) with very large rotating inertia and a voltage-source pulse width modulation (PWM) rectifier-inverter used as an AC exciter.

Novel applications of the flywheel energy storage system
Energy, 2005Abstract Flywheel energy storage system is focused as an uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) from the view point of a clean ecological energy storage system. However, in high speed rotating machines, e.g. motor, generator and flywheel, the windage loss amounts to a large ratio of the total losses.

Bearingless high temperature superconducting flywheel energy storage system
2019 IEEE Sustainable Power and Energy Conference (iSPEC), 2019In order to solve the problems such as mechanical friction in the flywheel energy storage system, a shaftless flywheel energy storage system based on high temperature superconducting (HTS) technology is presented in this paper. Because of the Meisner effect of the high temperature superconducting material, the flywheel with permanent magnet is ...

Wind energy conversion system associated to a flywheel energy storage system
Analog Integrated Circuits and Signal Processing, 2011This paper deals with the study of a variable speed wind induction generator associated to a flywheel energy storage system. Direct torque control strategy is applied to control the induction generator where both rotor flux and DC bus voltage are controlled through the application of the standard switching table for operations in the 4 quadrants.
