Influence of Slag Composition and Temperature on Slag Foaming.
The slag foaming behavior caused by the reaction between FeO containing slag and hot metal was investigated for the CaO-SiO2-Al2O3-P2O5-TiO2-MnO-MgO-CaF2 system. The peak of slag foaming height was observed when (CaO)/(SiO2) was around 1.2 and the peak value of (CaO)/(SiO2) became slightly large with the increase in temperature and the CaF2 mixing ...

Distribution characteristic and formation process of bubbles in foaming slag in a converter
Foaming slags at the top at the beginning of deslaggging, in the lower portion at the end of deslagging, and at the bottom after deslagging were taken with a sample scoop at the end of dephosphorization in the converter slag-remaining and double-slag ...

Slag Evaluation to Reduce Energy Consumption and EAF Electrical Instability [PDF]
In steel mills that operate with electric arc furnaces (EAF), it is interesting to ensure greater stability to the electric arc to aim at less distortion in the electrical system, with consequent reduction in electric power consumption.

Physical Model Studies on Slag Foaming.
A physical modelling investigation has been undertaken to determine the relationship between the physico-chemical properties of the liquid phase, the gas bubble size, the gas flux, and the residence times of gas in spherical foams. The testwork was conducted in a 107 mm diameter glass column in a temperature controlled environment.

MgO Saturation Analisys of CaO-SiO2-FeO-MgO-Al2O3 Slag System [PDF]
Electric arc furnace (EAF) slag has a range of functions, including improving energy efficiency through the "slag foaming" phenomenon. As such, the study of slag is important in EAFs.

Effect of Slag Compositions on Change Behavior of Nitrogen in Molten Steel
The problem of nitrogen pickup in the smelting process of the electric arc furnace (EAF) has not been solved well. Using seven slag–steel equilibrium experiments and theoretical analysis, the relation of the foaming index and optical basicity with the ...

Foaming Characteristics of BOF Slags.
Slag foaming measurements were carried out for BOF type slags that exist during the first half of the blowing period in order to better understand slopping of slag. The foam index (Σ) decreases with increasing FeO up to about 20% FeO content and is almost constant for FeO from 20 to 32 % FeO.
