Preparation of open-cell metal foams by investment cast [PDF]

open access: yesChina Foundry, 2005
Metal foams are a new kind of materials with low densities and novel physical, mechanical, thermal, electrical and acoustic properties. They can be divided into closed and open cell structures. In this paper the open cell structures, called sponges, were

Relaxing in Foam [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2003
We investigate the mechanical response of an aqueous foam, and its relation to the microscopic rearrangement dynamics of the bubble-packing structure. At rest, even though the foam is coarsening, the rheology is demonstrated to be linear. Under flow, shear-induced rearrangements compete with coarsening-induced rearrangements.

Biodegradable Foams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Biodegradable foams are currently gathering a wide interest from both academia and industry for several reasons. Specifically, resins from crude oil or natural gas are becoming less attractive as the price of the raw materials is increasing substantially.

Impact on multi-layered polypropylene foams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Foams, and particularly the polypropylene foam, are more and more often used in the area of injury protection and passive safety for its energy absorption capacity.

Foaming Volume and Foam Stability. [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Physical Chemistry, 1946
A method of measuring foaming volume is described and investigated to establish the critical factors in its operation. Data on foaming volumes and foam stabilities are given for a series of hydrocarbons and for a range of concentrations of aqueous ethylene-glycol solutions.

Heat transfer enhancement for thermal energy storage using metal foams embedded within phase change materials (PCMs) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper the experimental investigation on the solid/liquid phase change (melting and solidification) processes have been carried out. Paraffin wax RT58 is used as phase change material (PCM), in which metal foams are embedded to enhance the heat ...

SPACETIME FOAM [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics D, 2002
Spacetime is composed of a fluctuating arrangement of bubbles or loops called spacetime foam, or quantum foam. We use the holographic principle to deduce its structure, and show that the result is consistent with gedanken experiments involving spacetime measurements.

Compressive characteristics of metal matrix syntactic foams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The compressive behaviour of eight different metal matrix syntactic foams (MMSFs) are investigated and presented. The results showed that the engineering factors as chemical compositions of the matrix material, the size of the microballoons, the ...

Experiments on metallic foams under gravity and microgravity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
S.101-106Aluminium foams were created on ground and under microgravity conditions and were allowed to evolve, The entire foaming process was monitored by in situ X-ray radioscopy, allowing for flow and drainage of the liquid of the foam to be monitored ...
