Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Some Aspects about Seismology of 2012 August 11 Ahar-Vaezaghan (Azarbayjan, NW of Persia) Earthquakes Sequences [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sciences, Islamic Republic of Iran, 2013
In 2012 August 11 (12:23 UTC) a moderate earthquake with MW=6.4 (USGS) occurred between Ahar and Varzaghan towns in Azarbayjan Province at northwest of Iran. After eleven minutes another earthquake shook the area with MW=6.2 (USGS).

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

General regularities of seismic activity of Northern Armenia in connection with block structure and tectonic activity

open access: yesГеодинамика и тектонофизика, 2020
The study is focused on searching for spatial regularities in the occurrence of earthquake hypocenters in different geological settings in Northern Armenia. Tectonic-geomorphological indices are applied to define the tectonic activity of blocks composing

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

SEISMOTECTONIC DEFORMATION OF THE LITHOSPHERE IN THE PAMIR AND ADJACENT TERRITORIES

Downward Determination in Semiotic Multi-level Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Peirce's pragmatic notion of semiosis can be described in terms of a multi-level system of constraints involving chance, efficient, formal and final causation. According to the model proposed here, law-like regularities, which work as boundary conditions

Dynamic Mechanisms of Neocortical Focal Seizure Onset

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2014
Recent experimental and clinical studies have provided diverse insight into the mechanisms of human focal seizure initiation and propagation. Often these findings exist at different scales of observation, and are not reconciled into a common understanding. Here we develop a new, multiscale mathematical model of cortical electric activity with realistic

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
