Damage indicators and failure prediction in Focal Mechanism solutions

2020
<p>Acoustic Emissions (AE), the laboratory analogue to seismic events, recorded during conventional triaxial deformation tests allow for an unprecedented amount of information on the evolution of fractured media within a controlled environment.

Focal mechanism solutions for roof collapse in deep mine

International Journal of Mining and Mineral Engineering, 2015
Microseismic monitoring is an effective means of forecasting instabilities in ruptured rock masses during deep mining. Based on the complex geological conditions of a mine in Southwest China, a digital 24–channel microseismic monitoring system was established to monitor microseismic events during deep mining.

Mechanism Solution of Nepal-Bihar Eartbquake of August 20, 1988

Journal of the Geological Society of India, 1991
This paper presents the focal mechanism solution of the Nepal Bihar earthquake of August 20, 1988. Use was made of the first motions of P waves and polarization (or first motions) of S waves.

Focal-mechanism solutions of earthquakes and tectonics of the hindukush region

Tectonophysics, 1984
Abstract Seventeen focal-mechanism solutions have been obtained for earthquakes occurring in the Hindukush region using P-wave first motion directions observed from short as well as long period records. These solutions have indicated a thrust type of faulting. Some of the solutions show small components of strike slip motions.

Focal mechanism solutions and nature of plate movements in Pakistan

Journal of Geodynamics, 1986
Abstract From the seismic point of view, the territory of Pakistan which lies between latitude 23°–37° N and longitude 61°–75° E is one of the most active zones in the world. The importance of this area lies in terms of movements of the Indian plate with respect to Eurasia on the west.

A comparison of multiple solutions of focal mechanisms

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 1964
Abstract The occurrence of focal mechanism solutions of the same earthquake by different authors is examined. Of 42 instances of such multiple solutions for earthquakes which occurred around the borders of the Pacific Ocean, it is found that of 84 possible pairs of multiple solutions agreement is excellent in 8 cases, good in 13, fair in

On the focal mechanism of the Peru-Bolivia border earthquake of August 15, 1963

Bulletin of The Seismological Society of America (BSSA), 1970
The seismograms of the deep focus Peru-Bolivia border earthquake of August 15, 1963 reveal the presence of a number of conspicuous phases occurring within 15 seconds of the first P onset. These phases cannot be explained on the basis of known travel-time

Focal Mechanism Solutions of Intraplate Earthquakes and Stresses in the Lithosphere

1974
Focal mechanism solutions of 33 intraplate earthquakes are presented. These solutions, 47 additional mechanism solutions from the literature, and measurements of stress in situ indicate that the interiors of many lithospheric plates are characterized by large horizontal compressive stress. The predominance of com-pressive stress is particularly notable

Focal mechanism and source depth of earthquakes from body- and surface-wave data

Bulletin of The Seismological Society of America (BSSA), 1971
The determination of focal depth and other source parameters by the use of first-motion data and surface-wave spectra is investigated. It is shown that the spectral ratio of Love to Rayleigh waves (L/R) is sensitive to all source parameters.

Two focal-mechanism solutions for earthquakes from Iceland and Svalbard

Tectonophysics, 1977
Abstract Strike-slip solutions have been obtained and are presented here for the focal mechanisms of one earthquake from Iceland and one from Svalbard, on 13 and 18 January 1976, respectively. A fault plane is suggested for the Iceland earthquake.
