Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

ERGATIVIDAD Y RELACIONES GRAMATICALES EN KATUKINA-KANAMARI ERGATIVITY AND GRAMMATICAL RELATIONS IN KATUKINA-KANAMARI

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

MULTIPLE POINT OF VIEW IN THE NOVEL AND FILM "THE HUNT FOR WOLVES"

open access: yesLinguarum Universe
Ivaylo Petrov is the last great connoisseur of the Bulgarian village among the classics of our literature. In his novel “The Hunt for Wolves,” he depicts the human drama of the transition to collectivization of property in the 1940s and 1950s, which ...

Interferometric Focal Planes

open access: yesOptics Express
We propose arrays of integrated interferometers to characterize the mutual intensity on focal planes. While focal coherence measurement does not increase the aperture-limited spatial bandpass, it can increase Shannon information capacity relative to irradiance measurement by increasing the number of degrees of freedom per Nyquist sample.

α‐Synuclein aggregation landscape from phase separation to neurotoxic intermediates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Alpha‐synuclein aggregation in Parkinson's disease involves a complex landscape of transient intermediates, including oligomers, fibrils and liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). A view is emerging in which LLPS maturation into solid‐like condensates may contribute to the formation of neurotoxic species.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Sensual Immediacy and Narrative Distance in M. R. James’s Ghost Stories

open access: yesEr(r)go
By referring to “Count Magnus,” one of M. R. James’s ghost stories, Jacek Mydla discusses ghost-seeing and narrative distance. The theoretical context of this analysis consists of ancient (Plato) and contemporary (Booth, Genette) theories of narrative ...

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.
